BLOOD ON HER NAME is a crime thriller that works extremely well thanks to its cast. Especially Bethany Anne Lind is out of this world. It’s also a very impressive feature film debut for director Matthew Pope. Read our full Blood on Her Name review here!

Blood on Her Name is a crime thriller that reminded me of a few other great movies. However, it is still very much its own story. For this movie, the cast is what carries a lot of the plot because it is extremely character-driven. Which I do love in any movie – when it’s done right, of course!

This is a directorial feature film debut for Matthew Pope and it’s a damn strong debut.

Give Bethany Anne Lind more starring roles!

Bethany Anne Lind is the absolute star of this movie and she is truly delivering a performance that is out of this world. Even if you don’t recognize her name, you should recognize her face. I know I did. I found myself thinking “Where do I know her from?” and the answer; A whole lot of really amazing TV series!

Bethany Anne Lind has been in the Netflix series Stranger Things and Ozark. Also, she’s in the Doom Patrol and Reprisal series. In Blood on Her Name, she carries the entire story on her back and succeeds at everything she does.

I do also want to mention that she reminded me of Brittany Allen – just in case you feel the same way. And yes, that’s yet another huge compliment since I pretty much adore Brittany Allen. She recently had a smaller role in the Prime Video series The Boys, but horror fans should know her from her work with director Colin Minihan.

They did the movies It Stains the Sands Red (2016) and What Keeps You Alive (2018). Both are movies you should watch, but you especially should not miss out on What Keeps You Alive.

Anyway, my point is simply that we need to see Bethany Anne Lind in more starring roles. She has clearly proven that she can carry a movie.

Blood on Her Name – Movie Review

Wonderful supporting cast

I don’t want to give away spoilers for Blood on Her Name since the movie has some awesome plot developments. To avoid this, I’ll focus more on the awesome cast. Alongside Bethany Anne Lind – who really is more than enough reason to watch this movie – there are several other wonderful supporting actors.

First, I have to mention Will Patton. He was recently in the 2018 Halloween sequel and the all-too shortlived Swamp Thing series. In Blood on Her Name, he is as brilliant as ever. He plays the father of Leigh (Bethany Anne Lind) and their relationship is a bit rough around the edges. To put it mildly.

Also, I have to mention Elizabeth Röhm who has a smaller role, but you will definitely remember her! You should know Elizabeth Röhm from one of the many TV series, she has been in. They include several seasons of Law and Order as well as AngelHeroesStalker, and The Oath. Basically, she’s been staying busy for decades.

Watch Blood on Her Name in select theaters and on VOD

As mentioned earlier, Matthew Pope is the director of Blood on Her Name which is his feature film debut. He is also the co-writer of the screenplay which was made with Don M. Thompson. Previously, Matthew Pope has written and directed several short films so this movie marks his debut as both a feature film director and writer.

For Don M. Thompson, Blood on Her Name is also a feature film debut. The two have worked together on short films in the past, so hopefully, they will continue this filmmaking cooperation since it clearly works.

To give you an idea of what kind of movie Blood on Her Name is, I can tell you that it reminded me of Midnighters in many ways. Read our Midnighters review here >

However, it is quite a lot darker where Midnighters did offer some humor. Everything is a lot bleaker in this movie but it does have some of the same intelligent and surprising plot twists. If you like your movies to have character-driven stories with realistic plot development, then Blood on Her Name is well worth your time.

BLOOD ON HER NAME will open in select US theaters and on VOD in the US, Canada, UK, and AUS & NZ from Vertical Entertainment on February 28, 2020.

Plot

The dead body lies at her feet, its blood still draining onto the floor. It was an accident, borne of self-defense, but its discovery could have devastating consequences for local garage owner Leigh Tiller and her son. In a panic, Leigh decides to conceal the crime, cleaning the bloody scene and scrambling to dispose of the body. But can she actually disappear a man from the earth—from his family—leaving them forever wondering? As Leigh is torn between her primal instincts and tortured conscience she struggles to keep her sins hidden from her estranged father–a cop with a long history of moral compromise –and from the keen-eyed girlfriend of the deceased.

I write reviews and recaps on Heaven of Horror. And yes, it does happen that I find myself screaming, when watching a good horror movie. I love psychological horror, survival horror and kick-ass women. Also, I have a huge soft spot for a good horror-comedy. Oh yeah, and I absolutely HATE when animals are harmed in movies, so I will immediately think less of any movie, where animals are harmed for entertainment (even if the animals are just really good actors). Fortunately, horror doesn't use this nearly as much as comedy. And people assume horror lovers are the messed up ones. Go figure!
