Netflix series Curon ending explained

Let’s get into the Curon ending by answering some of the most asked questions. Maybe we’ll answer a few of yours along the way.

Is Curon a real place?

Many are wondering if Curon is a real place in Italy. And yes, it is actually. There is an actual town that was flooded to build a dam. Also, the lake covering the town does now have a bell tower left above water.

In fact, the bell tower has even had its bells removed (just like in the series) and folklore in the area supposedly even includes the legend that you will still hear the bells before dying. Again, just like in the Curon series.

The town is called Campanile di Curon and has the bell tower from the series. You can read more about it over at Atlas Obscura here >

What is the deal with the two wolves?

The tale of two wolves is an old Cherokee legend that helps explain human nature by way of animal traits. We’re all capable of good and evil, love and hate, or even sympathy as well as revenge.

These traits are explained by describing one wolf as being good, loving, and sympathetic while the other is evil, hateful, and wanting revenge. So, if both wolves live inside each of us, which one will win? The answer is simply: The wolf you feed.

In other words, whichever traits within yourself, you make room for, are the ones that will prevail.

When it comes to the plot of the Netflix series Curon, the two wolves become two actual versions of yourself that will battle it out.

Why do the doppelgangers appear in Curon?

When a person is so conflicted that they become incapable of action, the lake in Curon releases a doppelganger that can act.

This doppelganger will then attempt to kill the original in order to take over and be the stronger version of the person.

Essentially, when a person becomes too weak to fight their own battle, they give up.

To use the above-mentioned wolf analogy; They’re essentially feeding the aggressive wolf by giving up, which means this wolf will take over and kill the gentle wolf. The gentle wolf being the original person who is tired of fighting for what they want.

Why doesn’t it help to kill the doppelganger?

When Klara’s doppelganger appears, she manages to kill it with the help of her husband, Albert, who is himself a doppelganger. It would appear that he knows the original Klara is worth saving because he sees that she has everything he lacks.

He has no real joy or empathy. Instead, he knows only about fighting and moving forward constantly.

However, Klara has activated her doppelganger which we now learn is the point of no return. When the first doppelganger is killed, a new one simply appears.

No matter how many Klara doppelgangers they kill, a new one will be sent from the lake. As long as the original lives, that is.

Finally, Klara accepts that the stronger Klara doppelganger can probably make a better life for her kids and she accepts defeat.

To be fair, Klara seems like someone who has been depressed for a long time. She “won” her beloved Albert, but only by getting his Doppelganger, when that Albert killed the original.

As soon as the woman, the original Albert loved, returns, he cannot stay away from her. Remember, the doppelgangers always go after their own needs.

The Klara doppelganger promises to fight for the kids and the original Klara just makes her promise to make more of her life than she managed.

On the other hand, the twins’ mother, Anna, is completely dead, since both the original and the doppelganger were killed in the final episode.

How could the Albert doppelganger have a wife and kids?

The doppelgangers always provide for their own needs. And that’s what the Albert doppelganger did as well.

Albert’s need was to secure life for his kids. However, for him, “life” is very literally food and safety. Not love or happiness. This is the man Klara has lived with for two decades; Someone who provides, but doesn’t love.

When Anna (Albert’s first love) returns to Curon, he feels compelled to go after her. He is a doppelganger and they go after what they want with no shame or fear.

Albert did, however, recognize that his kids needed more than just food and safety. They also needed the love provided by Klara which is why he tried to help Klara by killing the doppelganger.

What happens to the doppelgangers trapped under the ice?

At the very end of Curon season 1, both Daria and Miki get terrible headaches and hear the bells ring. We all know that this means their doppelgangers are being released by the lake.

However, ice covers the Curon lake since it’s now winter. We see the Miki and Daria doppelgangers under the ice, trying to break through the surface.

They probably won’t be able to, which means the doppelgangers will die.

Of course, we know from Klara’s storyline that this doesn’t matter. New doppelgangers will simply be created.

Essentially, many Daria and Miki doppelgangers can be born and die before springtime. During this time, the two girls will probably suffer from extremely intense headaches, which leaves us with two questions:

#1: How long can you live with the doppelganger headaches?

#2: Will the doppelgangers be more aggressive from having been trapped under the ice and having memories of several deaths?

Personally, I can imagine that the Klara doppelganger will fight for her daughter, Miki, which means she’ll find a solution.

Probably one that includes breaking through the ice to let out the new Miki.

After all, we know that the only way to get rid of a doppelganger is to kill both the original and the doppelganger. Klara will probably want to fight for the Miki doppelganger rather than lose her daughter altogether.

Will there be a season 2 of Curon on Netflix?

As of writing this post, we still do not know if there will be a season 2 of the Netflix series Curon.

The ending of season 1 definitely leaves room for it. In fact, it’s the perfect layup to a second season.

Also, we really hope there will be a season 2 of Curon, so we can see what happens to Miki and Daria and how the Klara doppelganger will handle life.

She was actually the one doppelganger, who made a deal with the original to make more of their life.

That’s it. We hope the above little Q&A helped explain any questions you had about the Curon ending or plot.

I usually keep up-to-date with all the horror news, and make sure Heaven of Horror share the best and latest trailers for upcoming horror movies. I love all kinds of horror. My love affair started when I watched 'Poltergeist' alone around the age of 10. I slept like a baby that night and I haven't stopped watching horror movies since. The crazy slasher stuff isn't really for me, but hey, to each their own. I guess I just like to be scared and get jump scares, more than being disgusted and laughing at the grotesque. Also, Korean and Spanish horror movies made within the past 10-15 years are among my absolute favorites.
