Just like the first season of the first K-creature series, a lot of characters die in this second season as well. Of course, fans of South Korean genre productions will know that no one is ever truly safe. Just like no one is entirely good or evil. Everyone has to constantly make their own choices and follow their path.

Survival in a post-apocalyptic world

Actually, calling it “post-apocalyptic” is almost jumping the gun too much. It feels more like the apocalypse is upon this world as season 2 begins. Season 1 took place in the Green Home building for most of the runtime. Now, it’s a much bigger world with lots of new characters.

In season 2, we follow the Green Home survivors and Hyun-su as they fight to survive in this new world. They are not together, which we knew from the season 1 ending. Also, season 2 does very much begin right where the first season ended.

Also, yes, there is a recap at the beginning of episode 1. I can imagine you need a recap unless you just re-watched season 1. I know I certainly needed it even though I had just rewatched the final episode of the first season. Just to get into the “spirit” of Sweet Home yet again.

Now outside Green Home, survivors gather in the remains of a stadium where a new community has been built. From every zombie series (or movie) ever, we know that you can never let your guard down in a post-apocalyptic world.

It’s a balancing act of protecting the group you have, while also entering into a new community and adapting there. Also like in any zombie story, humans will be fighting both external monsters and each other. This is always the case and the so-called “normal” human beings are often the most dangerous!

Sweet Home Season 3?

Yes, Sweet Home will return for its third and final season. Season 3 of Sweet Home will be coming to Netflix in the Summer of 2024. Admittedly, it’s a relief that we won’t be waiting for three years yet again.

Season 1 of the K-creature series premiered on Netflix on December 18, 2020. It took nearly three years for us to get season 2 as it premiered on December 1, 2023.

Now, it looks like we’ll be waiting much less than a year with a promised season 3 release date in the summer.

The Sweet Home season 2 finale ends with several huge cliffhangers and surprises for fans, including a hint of when the series will return. In the final moments, an ending card reveals that season 3 will premiere in summer 2024.

Of course, with that cliffhanger-filled season 2 ending, we need another season. Making us wait too long would just be cruel. Fortunately, the quick return is due to seasons 2 and 3 being filmed back to back for over a year, with production ending in March 2023.

Watch season 2 of Sweet Home on Netflix now!

As already mentioned Sweet Home season 2 has eight episodes, whereas season 1 had 10 full episodes. The fact that this is a somewhat shorter season is easy to forgive when the final episode of the season teases yet another season.

Also, the storyline in Sweet Home is so extremely brutal that eight episodes were enough in one go. Well, for me, anyway. I love the fact that these South Korean productions are both character-driven and heartbreaking. However, I also admit that episode 1 was a more brutal opening than I expected.

As the director, Lee Eung-bok has stated, Season 1 was about portraying tension and fear in the confined space of the Green Home. Now, with Season 2 the events play out in an open space. One where we viewers will be introduced to a whole new group of characters and monsters.

If you’re a fan of the series or just South Korean movies and series in general, then you must check this out.

Sweet Home season 2 is on Netflix from December 1, 2023.

Plot

A world where desire turns monstrous. The Green Home survivors and Hyun-su each fight to survive in new places, while other beings and mysterious phenomena emerge. New desires and more struggles unfold in this Netflix series.

I write reviews and recaps on Heaven of Horror. And yes, it does happen that I find myself screaming, when watching a good horror movie. I love psychological horror, survival horror and kick-ass women. Also, I have a huge soft spot for a good horror-comedy. Oh yeah, and I absolutely HATE when animals are harmed in movies, so I will immediately think less of any movie, where animals are harmed for entertainment (even if the animals are just really good actors). Fortunately, horror doesn't use this nearly as much as comedy. And people assume horror lovers are the messed up ones. Go figure!
