You Cannot Hide is a new Netflix thriller series. It’s a Mexican production with the original title No te puedes esconder. However, the story itself takes place mostly in Madrid, Spain.
From episode 1 of You Cannot Hide, we get both a murder victim, a terrorist attack, a hitman hunting his target and a kidnapping. It’s a lot to take in, but the story is very well executed and we’re introduced to the characters in a very impressive way.
Usually, I can get truly exasperated when getting introduced to many characters and plot lines from the get-go. However, it actually works with this new Netflix series.

Each episode ends on a cliffhanger – in a good way!
In some ways, it reminded me of the Spanish Netflix mini-series Bitter Daisies. However, from the very beginning, You Cannot Hide has a faster pace which is positive. The state of the murder victim in this new Netflix series is creepier than in Bitter Daisies which is otherwise the darker of the two in terms of storytelling.

I do love a good cliffhanger and You Cannot Hide is certainly good at delivering those. From the ending of episode 1 and onwards, each episode tends to end on some sort of cliffhanger. However, the opening credits always come rather late into the episodes, so don’t let that fool you into thinking the episode is over. We’re just getting started!
You’ll know when the real cliffhanger happens. And, of course, you’ll want to continue watching this new series for as long as you can. With the end of each episode, you also get a “next on”-bit which is yet another trick to keep you engaged. And it does work!
A very strong cast
The cast of You Cannot Hide is pretty impressive in many regards. We have Eduardo Noriega in one of the lead roles and he’s someone you’ve probably come across once or twice. Even if you don’t watch many Spanish movies.
He was in the 1996 movie Snuff (org. title Tesis) by Alejandro Amenábar, who went on to direct The Others. Also, Eduardo Noriega was in The Devil’s Backbone (2001) by Guillermo del Toro.
Speaking of the great Mexican horror director, You Cannot Hide also features Maribel Verdú who co-starred in his iconic Oscar-winning movie Pan’s Labyrinth (2006). In this new Netflix thriller series, Maribel Verdú plays a Police Detective who is fighting for truth and justice.
Finally, I have to mention the main protagonist of You Cannot Hide. Her name is Blanca Soto and she’s also an executive producer on the Netflix series. In the series, Blanca Soto plays “a nurse trying to rebuild her life” and she has to endure quite a lot from the very beginning.

The creator of You Cannot Hide is Marcos Santana while the episodes of season 1 are directed by Alejandro Bazzano and Manuel Sanabria. The two have both worked on several TV series prior to this one.
Manuel Sanabria directed episodes of La Sala and Rabia. Alejandro Bazzano directed on the Netflix series Victim Number 8 which has a few similarities to this new series in terms of plot elements.

Season 1 of You Cannot Hide (org. title No te puedes esconder) consists of ten 45-minute episodes. The episodes tend to finish on a very intriguing cliffhanger, so you’ll find it hard not to simply let Netflix keep going. In general, this is a very engaging series with interesting plots that intertwine throughout the season.
I was hooked from episode 1 and, of course, you’ll find the story that appeals mostly to you. Still, there is nothing boring about any of the plot elements in this new Spanish-language thriller series on Netflix.
Season 1 of You Cannot Hide is out on Netflix from January 24, 2020.
