THIS GAME’S CALLED MURDER is a horror-comedy with a very interesting cast. Also, it’s a total mindf*ck as well as a social commentary. It’s crazy, but I liked it. You just absolutely must be in the mood for something that is out of this world.

Also, there are quite a lot of murders in this movie as well as blood and violence. Then again, you wouldn’t expect anything else from a crazy horror-comedy, would you?!

Watch it for the cast

Well, actually, you should watch This Game’s Called Murder for the cast and the crazy story. Especially because the crazy story isn’t that far off from what we’re dealing with in the real world. I did say this was a social commentary as well. Greed in a consumer-crazed world hardly sounds like fiction here on the heels of Black Friday!

SPEAKING OF BLACK FRIDAY

With Ron Perlman, Natasha Henstridge, and Vanessa Marano headlining this movie, you’re in for a treat. Personally, I am always happy to see especially Ron Perlman (Hellboy) and Natasha Henstridge (Species). Still, Vanessa Marano (Dexter (2009-2011)) gets the most screentime and surprised me in all the right ways.

In other words, the cast alone is enough to give this one a shot.

Adam Sherman is the writer and director of this new movie, which is his fifth feature film. So far, all of his movies have IMDb ratings under 5 and I suspect the same will happen to this one.

His movies are not simple or straightforward. Instead, they require something from their audience. You have to open your mind to the fact that he shows our world in a different way. Think symbolism and analogies and you should get so much out of watching this new movie as well.

CHECK IT OUT IF YOU LIKE

A movie like Color Out of Space starring Nicolas Cage – well, if you add some very dark comedy, obviously!

I definitely think This Game’s Called Murder could be a true genre film festival darling. It’s just the kind of crazy movie that works well in a full theater full of like-minded film fans. However, you could also check it out in your home theater, and just have fun with it.

THIS GAME’S CALLED MURDER will open in limited theaters and on VOD/Digital platforms through levelFILM on December 3, 2021.

Plot

THIS GAME’S CALLED MURDER is a dark and wickedly funny film about the eccentric members of the Wallendorf Family. Mr. Wallendorf, a fashion mogul and designer of iconic red high heeled shoes, Mrs. Wallendorf, his conniving brutal wife, and Jennifer Wallendorf, their daughter and a social media powerhouse who’s just trying to figure out love, friendship, and world dominance. The eccentric Wallendorf’s struggle to maintain the facade of a prominent successful family while their violent nature rips them apart.

I write reviews and recaps on Heaven of Horror. And yes, it does happen that I find myself screaming, when watching a good horror movie. I love psychological horror, survival horror and kick-ass women. Also, I have a huge soft spot for a good horror-comedy. Oh yeah, and I absolutely HATE when animals are harmed in movies, so I will immediately think less of any movie, where animals are harmed for entertainment (even if the animals are just really good actors). Fortunately, horror doesn't use this nearly as much as comedy. And people assume horror lovers are the messed up ones. Go figure!
