Once again, the cases cover everything from unexplained deaths to baffling disappearances and bizarre paranormal activity. Yes, we will be getting more alien stories, and I must admit, they are pretty fascinating this time around.

The first week of Unsolved Mysteries vol 3

The first week of Unsolved Mysteries Volume 3 includes the following three episodes:

Episode 1 is “Mystery at Mile Marker 45”

This one is directed by documentary filmmaker Skye Borgman, who has made some of the most popular Netflix true-crime documentary productions. These include – most recently – I Just Killed My Dad and Sins of Our Mother.

The “Mystery at Mile Marker 45” episode is about a death that was assumed to be a suicide. However, the details surrounding the death make suicide seem like a wild jump to a conclusion. Of course, with Skye Borgman as the director, you just know this has lots of layers and unbelievable twists.

“Something in the Sky” is episode 2

Gabe Torres (The Remarkable Life of John Weld) is the director of episode 2 in Vol 3, and it’s a crazy one. Mostly, it’s crazy that I had never heard about this before. It’s an alien-related case, but not the “classic” abduction story. No, this one is all about the many people who reported seeing the same strange light in the sky at the same time.

Even a meteorologist sees something on his screens that he cannot explain, which just makes the whole thing even more fascinating.

The third episode is “Body in Bags”

The final release in the first week is directed by Donnie Eichar (The People vs the Klan). This particular case isn’t so much unsolved as it is about someone on the run. First, it was a missing person’s story. Already at that point, there was a very suspicious individual.

Then the body parts of the missing person were found in bags. Now, there isn’t much doubt about who was either responsible or (at the very least) involved.

And she’s the real unsolved mystery since she needs to be brought to justice for her involvement in this brutal murder.

The upcoming episodes of Volume 3

In the second week (when the episodes are released on October 25, 2022), we get the next three episodes of Unsolved Mysteries season 3. These episodes are titled:

  • “Death in a Vegas Motel”
  • “Paranormal Rangers”
  • “What Happened to Josh?”

In other words, it almost parallels the first week of releases with death/murder, a paranormal case, and a mystery around one specific person (in the first week, this was “Mystery at Mile Marker 45”).

The third and final week of Unsolved Mysteries

Finally, the third week of Volume 3 releases (which happens on November 1, 2022), the episodes yet again feature titles that sound eerily familiar.

  • “Body in the Bay” (almost “Body in Bags” from week 1)
  • “The Ghost in Apartment 14” (mirrors the use of a number from “Mile Marker 45”)
  • “Abducted by a Parent” (which, frankly, just makes me think of the documentary Abducted in Plain Sight).

We will include additional information about these episodes as the release date approaches.

Unsolved Mysteries Vol 3 is from the creators of the original docuseries, so we’re sticking with this original team. Other producers include Shawn Levy, a producer on the Netflix mega-hit Stranger Things, so Netflix is working with the same producers across projects, as we’ve seen many times in the past.

The fact that this third installment of Unsolved Mysteries is being released in segments rather than a complete season, seems to be a new thing Netflix is trying out across several titles. The upcoming Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities will also be released a few episodes at a time. However, that show will be with daily releases, not weekly ones.

Volume 3 will have new episodes weekly on October 18, October 25, and November 1. The runtime of the episodes is all around the one-hour mark, so you can watch three hours per week to stay on top of the season as it’s released.

Volume 3 of Unsolved Mysteries will begin on Netflix on October 18, 2022.

Plot

The iconic and gripping series returns with a three-week event featuring more unexplained deaths, baffling disappearances, and bizarre paranormal activity.

I write reviews and recaps on Heaven of Horror. And yes, it does happen that I find myself screaming, when watching a good horror movie. I love psychological horror, survival horror and kick-ass women. Also, I have a huge soft spot for a good horror-comedy. Oh yeah, and I absolutely HATE when animals are harmed in movies, so I will immediately think less of any movie, where animals are harmed for entertainment (even if the animals are just really good actors). Fortunately, horror doesn't use this nearly as much as comedy. And people assume horror lovers are the messed up ones. Go figure!
