TIGER KING: THE DOC ANTLE STORY on Netflix is yet another series in the Tiger King franchise. Fortunately, this one is really good and with just three episodes, it’s a quick watch. Read our full Tiger King: The Doc Antle Story review here!

TIGER KING: THE DOC ANTLE STORY is a new Netflix docu-series. We’re still in the true-crime genre though the main subject has not yet been jailed. Compared to Joe Exotic [the main subject of the Tiger King series], he most definitely should be.

If you’ve been watching the two first seasons of Tiger King, then you should make sure to check out this one as well. It’s actually better and tighter than Tiger King 2 (or just season 2), which was rather messy.

What is Doc Antle’s real name?

Well, he’s not a doctor, but he is a Kevin. His full name is now Mahamayavi Bhagavan Antle and no, he isn’t a doctor. He was, however, born Kevin Antle. In this three-episode miniseries, we focus on Bhagavan “Doc” Antle, who is known mostly as “Doc Antle”.

The story of how Bhagavan Antle came to be is directly associated with Yogaville. A place some would call a cult and definitely a place that has a sordid past. The guru of Yogaville was quite the inspiration to Kevin Antle, who became Bhagavan Antle.

It’s also where Doc Antle first started having more than one wife at a time.

The doctor part of “Doc Antle” is a bit iffier. Supposedly, this high school drop-out has a “Ph.D. in zoology”. However, he also describes himself as an “MD” and has “done lots of autopsies”.

Uh-huh, sure, Jan!

Tiger King: The Doc Antle Story – Netflix Review

So many reasons why he should be behind bars!

As you watch the three episodes of Tiger King: The Doc Antle Story, you’ll hear about animal cruelty, domestic violence, a very dedicated interest in prepubescent girls, and an overall need for power and control.

Also, while Joe Exotic is in jail for trying to have someone murder Carole Baskin, there are many people who think Doc Antle has actually murdered someone. This is the main subject of the third and final episode.

It’s interesting that the original Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness (now known mostly as just season 1 of Tiger King) was about how Joe Exotic landed in jail. Doc Antle seems to have avoided prison just fine. Even though it appears that there are plenty of reasons why “Doc” should be behind bars.

As well as hearing from his former lovers (most of whom were only around 15 years old when they became involved with him), we also hear from other people. Especially those living at Yogaville at the same time, who (eventually!) saw him for the creep he was!

Eric Goode and Rebecca Chaiklin, the directors of both previous “Tiger King” series, have also directed this miniseries.  The really efficient thing about The Doc Antle Story miniseries is the fact that so many of Doc Antle’s former wives (legally or spiritually) appear in this.

They have plenty of background information on him and honestly admit that they were under his spell for way too long. As one of them puts it, the alternative – that they were involved in something terrible – was just too difficult to admit.

This was in relation to animal cruelty, but it could just as easily have been in relation to his many, many “relationships” with underage girls. Also, there’s that one rebel girlfriend that got away: Radha Hirsch. She is the real “cool cat” in all of this, and all the other former wives and girlfriends of Doc Antle just adore her!

Wait till you experience her. That’s who I want to watch the story of. Give me “Tiger King: The Radha Hirsch Story”. In the meantime, check out this miniseries. With just three episodes, it’s a quick watch, and you do not want to miss out on all the cool ladies (and a few guys) who appear in this Tiger King spin-off miniseries.

Tiger King: The Doc Antle Story premiered on Netflix on December 10, 2021.

Plot

A lifelong showman, Doc Antle has built his various careers on theatrics, attracting a slew of admirers along the way. But beneath the eccentric, animal-loving facade lies a predator far more dangerous than his beloved big cats and a man shadier than any of his Tiger King counterparts. Over three episodes, Tiger King: The Doc Antle Story unpacks the truth about Doc, as witnesses come forward to share their troubling stories of abuse and intimidation that set him at the top of the food chain.

I write reviews and recaps on Heaven of Horror. And yes, it does happen that I find myself screaming, when watching a good horror movie. I love psychological horror, survival horror and kick-ass women. Also, I have a huge soft spot for a good horror-comedy. Oh yeah, and I absolutely HATE when animals are harmed in movies, so I will immediately think less of any movie, where animals are harmed for entertainment (even if the animals are just really good actors). Fortunately, horror doesn't use this nearly as much as comedy. And people assume horror lovers are the messed up ones. Go figure!
