Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too is a new episode from Season 5 of Black Mirror. It stars Miley Cyrus as a pop star while the story is more about two sisters and an AI doll. No, this isn’t a horror doll but it does come to play a very big part of the story. Read more in our review here!

At the heart of the story, we have two sisters, Rachel and Jack. Of course, Miley Cyrus stars as a pop star named Ashley O and is the voice of the AI doll Ashley Too, but especially Rachel is the main protagonist.

Your heart should go out to both sisters for different reasons throughout this Black Mirror episode.

The young cast of this Black Mirror episode

Miley Cyrus is the pop star sensation Ashley O, who would rather be doing something else. And really, she’s creating new music that doesn’t quite fit with her bubblegum image. Obviously, no managers or agents are interested in this and so they need to intervene before Ashley O gets out of control.

Ashley O’s desire to do something different coincides with a new AI doll “Ashley Too” being released. Don’t worry, this isn’t another creepy doll story. Instead, it’s more of an empowering story but Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too isn’t a smoothe ride for anyone involved.

At the heart of the story we have the two characters actually starring in the episode; Sisters Rachel and Jack.

Rachel is portrayed by Angourie Rice (The Beguiled) while Jack is played by Madison Davenport (Sharp Objects). Both do the storyline of this episode justice in every way!

Watch Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too on Netflix now!

The Black Mirror episode Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too was directed by Norwegian director Anne Sewitsky. She’s an Award-winning director but this Black Mirror episode marks her first English language production.

Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too is definitely the one episode to also include some humor. It’s not a comedy by any stretch of the imagination, but it does offer some dark humor along the way.

Also, this particular episode of Black Mirror does hit pretty close to home. In fact, something similar has been happening for years!

Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too is out on Netflix (as part of Black Mirror Season 5) from June 5, 2019.

Plot

A lonely teenager yearns to connect with her favourite pop star – whose charmedexistence isn’t quite as rosy it appears…

I write reviews and recaps on Heaven of Horror. And yes, it does happen that I find myself screaming, when watching a good horror movie. I love psychological horror, survival horror and kick-ass women. Also, I have a huge soft spot for a good horror-comedy. Oh yeah, and I absolutely HATE when animals are harmed in movies, so I will immediately think less of any movie, where animals are harmed for entertainment (even if the animals are just really good actors). Fortunately, horror doesn't use this nearly as much as comedy. And people assume horror lovers are the messed up ones. Go figure!
