He Never Died is a new horror movie with a fascinating story. Also, this is the perfect role for Henry Rollins and you need to watch He Never Died to experience him. Or rather, to see his failed attempts to stay out of trouble!

He Never Died is a horror thriller that works on many levels. However, you won’t be holding onto your seat at the beginning of He Never Died. It’s another one of those slow-burners that allows you to enter the world of the main character. You get to experience just how indifferent he is towards life in general before we move on.

I mean, the man plays bingo surrounded by senior citizens and tries not to leave any mark on this planet. That includes not eating meat, drinking or smoking. In other words, this guy is super straight-edge!

Of course, that’s just part of the story. His reason for keeping his head down – and staying away from any real human contact – is the fact that he could easily rip your head clean off if necessary.

And yes, Henry Rollins is absolutely divine – oh yeah, I said “divine” – in the role of Jack. This is simply the perfect vehicle for him and he is the number one reason you should watch this movie. Unfortunately, there are also a few reasons you shouldn’t bother.

The lull in He Never Died

He Never Died starts out really great! I mean, the story – which is Jack’s everyday boring life – sucks you in as you find yourself trying to figure out what his deal is.

Something just happens around halfway in. Or rather, nothing happens!

The plot is too much in a rut and we seem to be stuck, but this time around it’s not interesting or intriguing. It just gets kinda boring.

Still, if you like Henry Rollins in any way, you have to watch him in He Never Died. This is his movie and he’s truly great in it. Full stop!

The rest of the cast does a great job as well, but none of them leave any kind of impression like Rollins. If I should mention anyone, it has to be Jordan Todosey (Degrassi: The Next Generation), who plays his daughter, Andrea. Their father-daughter “relationship” is a true gem.

He Never Died – Review – Henry Rollins

Watch He Never Died on Netflix

He Never Died was written and directed by Jason Krawczyk. He doesn’t have the longest resume on IMDb, but he did write and direct The Briefcase from 2011. I haven’t watched it, but now I’m thinking maybe I should.

This one certainly had its moments and some really awesome horror scenes – especially in the first half!

He Never Died is available on Netflix right now!

Plot

Jack, a social outcast, is thrust out of his comfort zone when the outside world bangs on his door and he can’t contain his violent past

I write reviews and recaps on Heaven of Horror. And yes, it does happen that I find myself screaming, when watching a good horror movie. I love psychological horror, survival horror and kick-ass women. Also, I have a huge soft spot for a good horror-comedy. Oh yeah, and I absolutely HATE when animals are harmed in movies, so I will immediately think less of any movie, where animals are harmed for entertainment (even if the animals are just really good actors). Fortunately, horror doesn't use this nearly as much as comedy. And people assume horror lovers are the messed up ones. Go figure!
