GHOSTWRITER is the new Apple TV+ Fantasy series. It’s a series made for the younger viewers but it can easily be enjoyed by adults as well. The first four episodes of Season 1 are out now. Read more in our Ghostwriter review here!

Ghostwriter is the new Fantasy series for kids on Apple TV Plus. The series is both funny and entertaining so adults can easily watch along as well. Bascially, a ghost is haunting the neighborhood bookstore and releases fictional characters into the real world.

In other words, we’re working in the same kind of universe as the Goosebumps movies. However, it’s not as scary as those movies were. This Apple TV+ series is a fantasy series and not a horror production.

Ghostwriter: Season 1 – Review – Apple TV+ Series

A wonderful cast of kids

The Ghostwriter cast is centered on the four kids who are able to see what the ghost is showing them. Both in terms of written messages in everything from orange juice and dust to writing on a chalk board and the characters that escape from books. Only these four kids can see all the strange things happening around them.

The lead character is Ruben who just moved to a new school. The bookstore in the series is owned by his Grandpa and Ruben himself also helps out there. Ruben is portrayed wonderfully by Isaac Arellanes who’s previously been in the HBO series Euphoria and he was in the 2018 horror-thriller Cucuy: The Boogeyman.

I also have to mention the youngest member of the group. Her name is Donna and she’s a real firecracker who is protrayed with awesome sass by Hannah Levinson. You may recognize Hannah Levinson from the series adaptation of Stephen King’s 11.22.63.

Overall, I love both the diversity and the very good acting from these kids. If I was a child, I would adore this series… and as an adult, I still do enjoy it quite a bit. Of course, you may actually know this plot from the original series. The previous Ghostwriter series had a nice run from 1992-1995 and was quite popular, so this 2019 version is just in time for the next generation.

Hopefully, it can help create an immense love of books for these kids as well.

Watch Ghostwriter on Apple TV+ now!

This is one of the series premiering with the launch of the Apple TV+ streaming service. To me, this is a much better production that the Sci-Fi Drama See since it actually thinks about its audience. Also, it makes a lot more sense within the universe it has created.

Ghostwriter was written and directed by Luke Matheny. In the past, Luke Matheny has written and directed episodes of Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street. This is another adventure-fantasy series for the family and makes him perfect to helm a series like Ghostwriter.

The first 4 episodes of Ghostwriter are out on Apple TV Plus from November 1, 2019.

Plot

When a ghost haunts a neighborhood bookstore and starts releasing fictional characters into the real world, four kids must team up to solve an exciting mystery surrounding the ghost’s unfinished business.

I write reviews and recaps on Heaven of Horror. And yes, it does happen that I find myself screaming, when watching a good horror movie. I love psychological horror, survival horror and kick-ass women. Also, I have a huge soft spot for a good horror-comedy. Oh yeah, and I absolutely HATE when animals are harmed in movies, so I will immediately think less of any movie, where animals are harmed for entertainment (even if the animals are just really good actors). Fortunately, horror doesn't use this nearly as much as comedy. And people assume horror lovers are the messed up ones. Go figure!
