The first trailer for the Child’s Play remake is finally here! This updated version of the story featuring the iconic Chucky doll is bound to have you curious. Whether you like reboots and remakes or not.
This time around, Chucky seems to be a more advanced toy, which is, of course, the perfect way to update the story. We’re talking AI elements and we all know these AI [Artificial Intelligence] creatures will be the end of us.
I mean, we first learned this in Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey from 1968. And we should definitively have learned our lesson with James Cameron’s Terminator franchise!
The first Child’s Play 2019 trailer has everything you know and love from the original. Well, except for all the people who worked on the original movies.
The new Child’s Play cast and crew
The creator of the Child’s Play franchise, Don Mancini, is not involved in this remake. In fact, he has expressed his disinterest in it all together. Whether he’s fed up with it or don’t like the direction taken with the remake is unknown.
And the remake won’t include Child’s Play franchise alumni cast of Jennifer Tilly, Alex Vincent, and Christine Elise.
However, this just leaves room for a fresh start. While I loved the old cast, a remake should include a new cast – though cameos from past films would be perfect.
The star of the 2019 Child’s Play remake is Aubrey Plaza as the mom. She has the perfect dark sense of humor and Aubrey Plaza seems like the ideal choice for this story. Her son (who is gifted the Chucky doll) is played by Gabriel Bateman, who horror fans will recognize from Lights Out (read our review of it here).
Norwegian director, Lars Klevberg is in charge of bringing Tyler Burton Smith’s script to life. This will be the first feature film released by Lars Klevberg, but he has actually made a feature film.
He directed Polaroid which we had on our “Horror Movies in 2017 We’re Looking Forward To”-list. The release date was originally August 25, 2017. However, it was pulled out of the release schedule and has been shelved ever since.
Polaroid should be out later this year – if the current IMDb information is correct.
