Season 3 of Penny Dreadful seems so much closer now that a full trailer has been released
From the second we heard about this new show called Penny Dreadful – back before its premiere in April 2014 – we knew we’d love it.
Created by John Logan, who was Oscar-nominated for Gladiator (2000), The Aviator (2004) and Hugo (2011) and most recently co-wrote the James Bond movies Skyfall and Spectre, you knew a very capable storyteller was behind this. And then a cast featuring Eva Green (Casino Royale), Timothy Dalton (Licence to Kill), Josh Hartnett (30 Days of Night) and Billie Piper (Doctor Who) among many others. Yeah, it does read a bit like a James Bond alumni.
Even though we’re super excited about season 3 and we loved the style and tone from the very beginning, we’re not ashamed to admit season 1 was a bit too slow for our taste. Lots of great storylines, but just a bit too much focus on drama instead of thrills and horror.
All that changed when season 2 on Penny Dreadful started in May 2015. That time around we got a lot more horror and action! This meant you never really knew what would happen from one episode to the next and we loved it. Especially Eva Green was absolutely breathtaking as Vanessa Ives.
Eva Green is mesmerizing
She was also great in season 1, but in season 2 she was simply amazing and why she hasn’t won any awards for this role yet, is beyond me! She was, however, nominated for a Golden Globe after her work in season 2, which was extremely well-deserved, so maybe this season 3 will finally land her a win.
Her portrayal of a woman, who’s coming apart, but doing her best to fight it, is intense, scary and made her the absolute star of the show. I would always want her Vanessa Ives character in my corner – even with the demons, she brings along. Eva Green’s acting was superb and personally, I always found myself wanting more whenever an episode ended.
Also, a shout-out to the amazing Billie Piper, who had some truly kick-ass moments in season 2. Plus, let’s not forget Broadway superstar Patti LuPone, who did a fantastic job opposite Eva Green in many episodes of season 2 – fortunately, she will be back in season 3, as well.
While Penny Dreadful is an overall amazing TV series now, I’m really looking forward to seeing what Eva Green will bring to this next season. That’s why I am now really excited to finally get a full season 3 trailer for Penny Dreadful, which has only made me even more impatient.
Season 3 of Penny Dreadful will premiere on Showtime May 1, 2016.
