WORST NEIGHBOR EVER on Netflix is a new true crime documentary series. With just four episodes, each covering a new case, this is more terrifying than most horror movies. A must-watch if you enjoyed Worst Roommate Ever and Worst Ex Ever. Read our Worst Neighbor Ever docuseries review here!
WORST NEIGHBOR EVER is on Netflix with four strong episodes. These true crime cases always blow my mind, even though I should expect pure madness by now. This is the latest spin-off from the true crime docuseries that began with Worst Roommate Ever.
The first spin-off was Worst Ex Ever, and one can only imagine which other spin-offs may be next.
Maybe Worst Boss Ever or Worst Parent Ever, if we want to go for the stuff that really cuts deep. I mean, there are already a few documentaries about awful parents. In any case, the first four Worst Neighbor Ever stories are now on Netflix. And yes, these neighbors are absolutely terrifying in their behavior and actions.

The 4 cases in season 1 of awful neighbors
Actually, no, referring to the people in the cases of Worst Neighbor Ever as “awful” is putting it too mildly. These neighbors are terrifying and even deadly. If you’ve watched The Perfect Neighbor (also on Netflix), then you’ll know just how bad things can turn out.
If you haven’t watched the Netflix true crime documentary The Perfect Neighbor, then you really ought to!
In any case, the people you’ll meet in this latest true crime docuseries spin-off from Worst Roommate Ever are pure horror.
“She finally snapped” is episode 1
In the first episode of Worst Neighbor Ever, we meet Frances Zaayer. She’s an old friend of the family, and after years away from everyone, she moves into the neighborhood. Soon, everyone will wish they had never met her.
Shawna Scott and her husband, David, have recently made the same move to Kentucky to be closer to Shawna’s family. Now, she’s also living across the street from Frances Zaayer, who turns out to be more dangerous than anyone ever anticipated. She is the definition of a “Karen”, and a deadly one at that.
Also, again, if you’ve watched The Perfect Neighbor, you’ll recognize that the two women are eerily similar!
“Midwest Meltdown” is episode 2
Sure, call it a meltdown, but the core story of “Midwest Meltdown” deals with a huge explosion. Monserrate Shirley, better known as simply “Moncy”, moves into the classic suburban neighborhood, where kids play in front yards, and neighbors celebrate the 4th of July together and enjoy each other’s company.
We’re in the tight-knit community of Richmond Hill, Indiana, and Moncy fits in (even while standing out in other ways), but only for a while. A sudden divorce sends Moncy into a second youth of sorts, and her new boyfriend, Mark Leonard, spells trouble. The fatal kind!
On November 10, 2012, Moncy’s house explodes. It’s so violent that two people in the vicinity die while dozens of others are injured, and upwards of 30 homes are destroyed. But how was this the result of a new boyfriend?
“Fear Thy Neighbor” is episode 3
If the first two episodes weren’t enough to make you fear your neighbor, then episode 3 will surely do the trick. With the apt title of “Fear Thy Neighbor”, you’ll meet Jamal “JT” Thomas, who takes harassment to a whole new level.
The story focuses on Miles Armstead and his wife, Melina, who have bought a home in the diverse, working-class Oakland, California, neighborhood of Eastmont Hills. Here, they plan to enjoy life with their blended family as they prepare to welcome their first child together.
The family of six is made to feel very welcome in the neighborhood. Not least by the Thomases, who live just next door. Sadly, the Thomas family ends up getting evicted, and the adult son, JT, does not take this well.
“The Executor” is episode 4 and ends season 1
In October of 2021, the LAPD received an anonymous tip from a concerned citizen worried about the 70-year-old Charles Wilding. The caller told Detective Mark O’Donnell that this wealthy single homeowner in Sherman Oaks could be the victim of fraud and possibly even be dead.
Charles Wildling had no kids, so the investigation (viewed as a potential homicide case) soon led him to Caroline Herrling. She is a litigation consultant and appears (according to herself) to be in charge of Wilding’s estate. She also claims that he’s just away traveling to visit friends, and she’s taking care of business for him.
Could it be this simple, or is something more sinister happening? Well, the title of the episode is “The Executor”, so that probably already gives away who the villain of this true crime case is.
Watch season 1 of Worst Neighbor Ever on Netflix now!
I have thoroughly enjoyed the two seasons of both Worst Roommate Ever and Worst Ex Ever, so I was hoping for this one to be good as well. And you know the saying: “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!” Well, fortunately, that’s been implemented perfectly here, and Worst Neighbor Ever is made following the exact same formula.
This means the true crime docuseries always interviews key first-hand witnesses from each case, and instead of dramatizations with actors who “kinda sorta” look like the real-life people, animations are used. It works just as great for this one as the previous two types of installments.
All four episodes of season 1 can be streamed on Netflix now, and you might as well prepare yourself for a binge-watch. Unless, of course, you need a breather in between each one of the crazy stories. These are some terrifying tales indeed.
With what we see in season 1 – and what we know about the world – I can imagine there are plenty more episodes in the making. Season 2 is undoubtedly already in pre-production!
Worst Neighbor Ever is out on Netflix from July 1, 2026.
