WEEKEND AT THE END OF THE WORLD is a horror comedy with a tiny cast and a fairly crazy plot. It will throw a few curveballs at you along the way, but isn’t that exactly what a horror comedy often thrives on? I enjoyed how it surprised me. WEEKEND AT THE END OF THE WORLD is coming out on digital. This is a horror comedy that ticks pretty much every box needed for a very entertaining experience. Fans of this hybrid genre (and I am one) should enjoy this little gem. For me, it has the potential to be a cult hit.
Don’t just take my word for it. This horror-comedy has already enjoyed a strong festival run, resulting in a Best VFX award and a Special Mention for Best Comedy at Grimmfest. Also, it won Best Sci-Fi Film at Another Hole in the Head Film Festival. Now, it’s being self-distributed by the filmmakers in North America, so please support this.
Not “just” to support independent filmmakers, but because it’s a really good horror-comedy. A movie made by people who clearly love what they do. And they are talented to boot.

The power of friendship… and stupidity!
From the opening scene of Weekend at the End of the World, I knew this would be my kind of movie. It just has that special brand of dark comedy that suits this genre-mix particularly well. Also, it was made wonderfully obvious that the cast and crew were having a blast with this and were not afraid to go crazy with the plot and characters.
We’re meeting the two friends, Karl (Clay Elliot) and Miles (Cameron Fife), when Karl is hurting. Both from physical injury, a shattered pride, and a broken heart. Karl’s girlfriend has just rejected his proposal, and now his best friend, Miles, is whisking him away to forget all about that rather unpleasant ordeal.
Miles takes them to Meemaw’s cabin. And yes, this is the proverbial “cabin in the woods”, but Miles believes this is where he can make a fortune. The two friends simply need to flip this “amazing” piece of property before the property bubble bursts.
Embrace and enjoy the craziness
This is not the plan of the once-deceased Meemaw, which Miles and Karl (along with the kind neighbor) will soon realize. And it’s one wild wake-up call that includes demons. Both the more metaphorical kind and the very diabolical and real kind.
Meemaw has been planning her own resurrection for most of her life, and it works pretty much as she planned. That’s why Miles will end up inadvertently opening a portal to The Allness. This is the realm between realities, and Meemaw has taught Miles all about this, but he never paid much attention. Not to worry, as Meemaw expected this.
That’s why the now-returned, but very weakened, Meemaw will have to guide the two young men to the finishing line. They will encounter trials, all meant to give her strength, so she can complete her plan of closing the portal and saving our world.
The four main characters in Weekend at the End of the World are portrayed by wonderful actors. We have Troian Bellisario (Martyrs, Pretty Little Liars) as the young version of Meemaw, Cameron Fife plays her adult grandson Miles, and Clay Elliott as Miles’ best friend, Karl.
Finally, we have the always wonderful Thomas Lennon (Destroy All Neighbors) as the neighbor, Hank, who has the most amazing eggs. Well, he really does, apparently.

Weekend at the End of the World is directed by Gille Klabin, who previously directed the gorgeously insane 2019 sci-fi thriller The Wave starring Justin Long. The screenplay comes from director Gille Klabin, star Clay Elliott (who plays Karl), and Spencer McCurnin.
Early on, when watching Weekend at the End of the World, I started to think of Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, which is one of my favorite horror-comedies. Now, this 2025 horror comedy is not that, but it hits a lot of the same sweet spots. So, if you’re also a fan of that particular crazy movie in the hybrid genre, then do check this one out as well.
It’s wild and crazy, and I absolutely loved it.
Admittedly, I won’t be watching Weekend at the End of the World on repeat, but I would definitely recommend it to all fans of the horror-comedy hybrid genre. This is exactly the kind of craziness I loved these genre-mix movies for!
WEEKEND AT THE END OF THE WORLD will be released on digital platforms on April 20, 2026.
