THE TOWN is a new Netflix series from Turkey (org. title: Kasaba). It’s a crime thriller mini-series with eight episodes, which might sound like a lot, but the runtime of each episode is usually under 40 minutes. As a whole, that means this doesn’t drag on for too long.

However, this is also a crime thriller series, so we need to cover a lot of twists and turns with betrayal and alliances before it’s all over. This is a story about opportunity… and taking risks! About loyalty, survival, and a whole lot of money that clearly belong to someone you do not want to mess with.

A lucky break… or curse?!

We meet two brothers as they reunite after many years apart. One brother stayed behind in their childhood small town, the other left for Istanbul to pursue his dreams. Now they reunite with their childhood friends due to a funeral – life and death always seem to bring people back together.

Not only are the siblings reuniting, but they also get together with their childhood friends. It’s obvious that those who stayed behind haven’t made as much of their lives as anyone who left. However, a chance discovery could change all that.

They find a car crashed with two murdered men and a lot of cash. We’re talking bags full of cash and no one else around. Then again, in the car with the cash are two dead bodies. Murdered. Everything about this screams “crime” and “danger”.

The Town – Review | Netflix Thriller Mini Series | Kasaba

Who can you trust?

And yet, it’s also a huge opportunity to rebuild their lives. Obviously, it’s a very risky opportunity, so it demands that everyone in their little circle of friends can be trusted. They can escape any debt or bad situation, but will probably be faced with new challenges.

Can their alliance hold, when loyalty in both friendships and family ties is put to the test?!

This Netflix miniseries stars Okan Yalabık, Özgürcan Çevik, Ozan Dolunay, Büşra Develi, and Kerem Can. You may not know any of these actors, but that’s okay.  The Town is a very character-driven story, and these actors portray their characters ideally.

The Town (org. title: Kasaba) was written by Deniz Karaoğlu and Doğu Yaşar Akal. The director of the series is Seren Yüce.

The production quality is impressive, and the runtime of each episode is fairly short thanks to tight pacing. I realize not everyone is ready to check out a Turkish Netflix series, but you’ll be missing out on some great productions if you never give them a chance. This is far from the best Netflix production from Turkey, but it is interesting and entertaining.

If you’re curious about other productions from Turkey, then I can recommend Hot Skull and especially Fatma. And if you want a crime thriller with a universal plot, then The Town is worth checking out as well.

The Town (org. title: Kasaba) is on Netflix from December 11, 2025.

– I write reviews and recaps on Heaven of Horror. And yes, it does happen that I find myself screaming, when watching a good horror movie. I love psychological horror, survival horror and kick-ass women. Also, I have a huge soft spot for a good horror-comedy. Oh yeah, and I absolutely HATE when animals are harmed in movies, so I will immediately think less of any movie, where animals are harmed for entertainment (even if the animals are just really good actors). Fortunately, horror doesn't use this nearly as much as comedy. And people assume horror lovers are the messed up ones. Go figure!
