THE INVISIBLE RAPTOR is a new horror-comedy that I wasn’t sure would work, but it’s absolutely wonderful. It’s gross, extreme, and very funny. You’ll want to check this one out. Read our full The Invisible Raptor movie review here!

THE INVISIBLE RAPTOR is a horror-comedy that – by title alone – might make you think of Sharknado or Zombeavers. However, this is an entirely different kind of beast. It plays much more with your mind than crazy special effects. I mean, the raptor is invisible!

With a runtime of nearly two hours (1 hour and 55 minutes), I was certain it would feel way too long. To my surprise, it didn’t. In fact, I happily stayed put to watch the several end-credit scenes. And you should too. This could be a new franchise. In fact, I hope it will be!

A creature feature with no creature

I realize the very concept of The Invisible Raport sounds crazy. After all, this is essentially a creature feature with no (visible!) creature. Instead, we’re seeing the aftermath of the creature’s actions and people reacting to this invisible creature.

And it is brilliant! If you’ve watched the trailer for The Invisible Raptor and were intrigued, then you’re in for the most glorious treat with this genre hybrid.

We’re talking about a top-secret experiment that goes wrong. Not only is this raptor invisible, it is hyper-intelligent. That’s why it’s able to escape and wreak havoc on everyone and everything in sight.

And, of course, its first destination is the local “Dinoworld” where it hopes (or expects) to find more like it. Well, maybe not invisible, but certainly other raptors and other dinosaurs. A disgraced paleontologist, who now works at Dinoworld, must save the town from this invisible predator!

The Invisible Raptor – Review | Horror-Comedy

Absolutely crazy… I loved it!

In The Invisible Raptor, the characters (and the actors portraying them of course) are what makes it all work. Alongside the disgraced paleontologist Grant Walker (Mike Capes), we have his ex-girlfriend Amber (Caitlin McHugh), and the clearly unhinged amusement park security guard Deniel “Denny” Denielson (David Shackelford).

Also getting involved to save everyone is a local celebrity chicken farmer, Henrietta McCluckskey (Sandy Martin). In one way or another, this is the team that has become the town’s only hope for survival. The Raptor is on a rampage, but it’s also intelligent, so you can appeal to this side of it as well.

Also in a smaller key role, as one of the people who trained the Raptor, is Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings, The Goonies, Stranger Things).

I have no idea what I expected from this movie, but it managed to be so much better than anything I could’ve hoped for. It’s absolutely crazy… and I loved it!

Watch The Invisible Raptor on Digital or in Theaters

The Invisible Raptor was directed by Mike Hermosa and the screenplay comes from Mike Capes and Johnny Wickham. And yes, Mike Capes is the very same one who stars in the movie as Dr. Grant Walker, the disgraced paleontologist.

Overall, this is a very meta movie. In all the best ways. From the almostJurassic Park score playing in the background to the many pop-culture references.

I have no doubt that I missed out on a few because I was busy thinking about one while another was served up. Fortunately, that’s just a good reason to watch this horror-comedy creature feature madness of a genre treat again!

The Invisible Raptor is out In Theaters & On Digital on December 6, 2024.

Plot

An amusement park paleontologist and a hapless security guard team up to stop an invisible raptor from wreaking havoc on their small town.

I write reviews and recaps on Heaven of Horror. And yes, it does happen that I find myself screaming, when watching a good horror movie. I love psychological horror, survival horror and kick-ass women. Also, I have a huge soft spot for a good horror-comedy. Oh yeah, and I absolutely HATE when animals are harmed in movies, so I will immediately think less of any movie, where animals are harmed for entertainment (even if the animals are just really good actors). Fortunately, horror doesn't use this nearly as much as comedy. And people assume horror lovers are the messed up ones. Go figure!
