THE HUNTING PARTY is a new NBC & Peacock series in the thriller and crime genres. The story revolves around serial killers but also the people who worked with profiling them. Those who study and hunt down serial killers to keep the world safe. And also, people working to find the next serial killer before they ever kill.
The series has 10 episodes in its first season. Each episode is named after a serial killer who must be hunted down and eliminated before they can strike again. The first episode is “Richard Harris” and it sets the stage perfectly for an intelligent and engaging series that I want to continue watching.

Hunting for dead serial killers
In The Hunting Party, we’re following a small team that has been assembled to hunt down some of the most dangerous killers. The twist in this tale is apparent from the opening scene, which works extremely well. We see an underground prison, clearly a secret project, full of prisoners, which then explodes.
Not only isn’t the prison supposed to exist, but the inmates are all convicted killers who should be dead. They’ve officially been executed, but obviously, this never happened. Instead, their “execution” was merely a step on their way to a new purpose; Being held in a secret prison where they could be studied and even experimented on.
Officially, these escaped inmates do not exist. They’re dead. And the prison never existed either. This means the team (The Hunting Party) isn’t able to officially ask the public for help. If they did, they would have to admit that they’ve lied about executing convicted killers and instead kept them alive.
Not exactly legal in any way.

Melissa Roxburgh leads the cast
The Hunting Party stars Melissa Roxburgh as Rebecca “Bex” Henderson. She’s an ex-FBI agent in the opening scene, but also a brilliant profiler, so she’s back with the FBI within minutes of the pilot. She had some issues with the umm tactics of her former partner.
We’ll see the details of this before episode 1 is over. Melissa Roxburgh is a Canadian actress, and you might recognize her from the Netflix & NBC series Manifest or The CW’s Valor.
Two other key characters in The Hunting Party are Nick Wechsler (Revenge, Roswell, The Boys) as Bex’s former partner in the FBI, Oliver Odell, and Josh McKenzie (La Brea) as a former soldier and current prison guard, Shane Florence.
Also playing key roles are Patrick Sabongui (Homeland, The Flash) and Sara Garcia (True Fiction) portraying CIA Agent Jacob Hassani and intel officer and army major Sara Garcia respectively. Plus, you can look forward to seeing Matt Frewer (The Order) in later episodes.

The Hunting Party was created by JJ Bailey, who also serves as co-showrunner alongside Jake Coburn (Quantico, Biohackers). They are also writers for The Hunting Party. Thor Freudenthal is the director with Keto Shimizu (Legends of Tomorrow) onboard as a writer.
All of the above-mentioned are also executive producers of the series.
I’m a sucker for serial killer stories and this one teases to be one of the better productions. Judging from its pilot episodes, The Hunting Party cast the perfect star of the show in Melissa Roxburgh. She has a fierce streak coupled with integrity and intelligence. I’m a fan.
Just as we saw recently with Paradise on Hulu and Disney+, the pilot episode of The Hunting Party was released ahead of schedule on Sunday, January 19, at 7 p.m. ET/PT on NBC and the next day on Peacock.
