THE GLASS DOME is a new Netflix crime series from Sweden (org. title: Glaskupan). The series was created by one of the very best Nordic Noir crime writers there is. Not based on one of her many best-selling books, but rather created as an original story for this series.
I’ll be honest; This alone made me very excited about this series. Also, trust me, this author loves all the dark and sinister stories as much as any horror fan. In fact, she is a huge fan of horror, so this series also gets pretty dark. We watched all six episodes for this review.

Is history repeating itself?
We’re in a small village in Sweden, where Lejla (Léonie Vincent) lived after a very traumatic experience. She was kidnapped and kept in a glass cage of sorts when she was just a young girl. She managed to escape and has made a career of working as a criminologist. Including profiling.
She returns home because her adoptive mother passed away – and yes, we will hear what happened to her biological mom as well, as it’s part of the story.
When Lejla returns home, it’s to a small town currently trapped between tradition and modernization. This creates increasing tension among its citizens. The “tradition”-focused citizens tend to also be quite racist, so it’s not pretty.
Still, all of this is overshadowed by something far darker and more sinister as a young girl is kidnapped. The child is the daughter of Lejla’s childhood friend, so instead of returning to her new home in the U.S., she stays to help work on this case.
Needless to say, many are quick to wonder if maybe history is repeating itself. Could this girl be trapped in a glass dome like Lejla was decades earlier? After all, her kidnapper was never caught, so it’s not too far-fetched.

The secrets of a small town
While searching for the girl, secrets come spilling out like they always do in these crime thriller series. After all, when investigating people and their alibis, you tend to discover what they’ve been up to.
Being in a small town, everyone thinks they know each other, but still, there are secrets that only very few know about.
For Lejla, this is very traumatic, and her nightmares are coming back in full force. This leads to many scary scenes as we can never be sure of what’s real and what’s a nightmare. In that sense, we’re right there with Lejla, who doesn’t know either.
As Lejla, we have Léonie Vincent (Faithless), who delivers a powerful portrayal of a traumatized young woman who fights back against the demons of her past. As her adoptive dad, we see Johan Hedenberg (Blind Spot), and as a kind local police officer, we see Ia Langhammer.
So many missing girls on TV
While the two stories are wildly different, there are two stories coming out about a kidnapped young girl in the same week. One is The Glass Dome on Netflix, and the other is The Stolen Girl on Hulu & Disney+.
The Glass Dome is released first, and if you like this, I think you’ll enjoy The Stolen Girl as well. This Netflix series is definitely the darker and more sinister of the two. Also, it includes more of a mystery surrounding the missing girl, while we always stay with the girl in the other series.
Overall, the two series are quite different, but I suspect you’ll enjoy them both. For wildly different reasons, but they both have a lot to offer.
Watch The Glass Dome series on Netflix!
As already mentioned initially, The Glass Dome was created by Swedish crime author Camilla Läckberg. And yes, you should definitely check out her books as well. There are plenty to choose from, so just go with whatever sounds like you’ll enjoy it, and you’ll be hooked.
The scriptwriters on the episodes are Amanda Högberg (Deliver Me) and Axel Stjärne (Top Dog). Previously, Amanda Högsberg also helped adapt a book into a series with End of Summer (2023).
I love that Camilla Läckberg made the solid choice of working with people who are familiar with writing for the TV series format. To me, this shows she wants the best possible result.
Directors on the episodes in the series are Lisa Farzaneh (Quicksand), who serves as the conceptual director, and Henrik Björn (Jordskott). Again, people with experience from the series format.
The Glass Dome series is on Netflix from April 15, 2025.
