THE BOYS Season 5 on Prime Video marks the beginning of the end. The first two episodes have been released on the premiere day of the series, and we already know this fifth season is also the final one. Personally, I was ready for more, and have always loved how it hit so close to home. Of course, this time around, even the craziness of this fictional world can’t surpass real life.

This final season of The Boys is as brutal, violent, and bloody as ever. Fortunately, it’s also still extremely entertaining and on-point with its social (and yes, political) commentary. We’ve only watched the first two episodes for this review and will enjoy the rest of this season with its weekly releases. No need to rush, when you know it’s the final season.

Nobody likes Homelander, but they all fear him
In season 5 of The Boys, it may be Homelander’s world, but he’s realizing this doesn’t make him happy. Nobody likes him, but they all fear him. It’s a world entirely of his own making, and surrounded by “Yes Men” (of any gender), he can do whatever he wants, but gets no real pleasure from it.
He is as erratic and egomaniacal as ever. Nothing new there. And this is exactly why he must be stopped. Yes, even if it means the end of all Supes.
When The Boys season 5 begins, it’s with Hughie, Mother’s Milk, and Frenchie imprisoned in a so-called “Freedom Camp”. Oh yeah, complete with a “Freedom Sets You Free” greeting at the gates. Yet another obvious reference to 1930s and 1940s Germany (and the surrounding occupied nations). There, the sign said: “Arbeit Macht Frei” [Work Sets You Free].
The obsession with claiming the America of Homelander is full of Freedom never stops. Even when no one is actually free to do or think as they please any longer.
Stop Homelander at any cost
Homelander’s unchecked power is exactly why Annie and Butcher both believe the idea of a virus that will kill all supes is the way to go. Yes, they are ready to lay their own lives on the line to save the world. Even Annie is on board with the idea after what she has witnessed over the years.
If 10,000 Supes have to die to save the 8 billion human beings on the planet, then this is (for lack of other option) the way.
To get to this point, they have to make sure the virus works. First, it needs to be produced in a lab, but who will do this? Next, it needs to be tested, and who will be the guinea pig? Also, there’s a chance that it could also kill humans, which would defeat the purpose.
Nothing is simple, but the world as controlled by Homelander cannot continue.

The Boys is still based on the New York Times best-selling comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. The two also continue to serve as executive producers. This Prime Video series adaptation was developed by executive producer and showrunner Eric Kripke.
One thing is certain: this final season of The Boys promises to go out with a bang. This also means you’d better prepare yourself to see many characters suffer and even die. Nobody is safe if the plan concocted by Annie and Butcher works. And what about Kimiko, who disappeared but tends to survive everything and anything?
You’ll have to watch The Boys season 5 to get all the answers. Don’t worry, you’ll have a blast with it.
The Boys Season 5 begins on April 8, 2026. The series finale is out on May 20, 2026.

Plot
In the fifth and final season, it’s Homelander’s world, completely subject to his erratic, egomaniacal whims. Hughie, Mother’s Milk, and Frenchie are imprisoned in a “Freedom Camp.” Annie struggles to mount a resistance against the overwhelming Supe force. Kimiko is nowhere to be found. But when Butcher reappears, ready and willing to use a virus that will wipe all Supes off the map, he sets in motion a chain of events that will forever change the world and everyone in it. It’s the climax, people. Big stuff’s gonna happen.
