THAT NIGHT on Netflix is a thriller mystery series from Spain (org. title: Esa noche). However, if the title is familiar, it may be because it’s based on a novel by a UK author. The key plot driver is a murder, and each episode is told from a different person’s point of view. With just six episodes, I found it impossible not to binge-watch the whole series. THAT NIGHT is a Netflix series with six episodes. It’s based on the novel by Giliam McAllister, but a Spanish production (org. title: Esa noche), so the story has been moved geographically. This isn’t the only change, and I don’t mind changes in adaptations. However, I wanted to “warn” any fans of the novel about these changes, so everyone can go in with an open mind.

This is a thriller series with a murder mystery. We know from the beginning who died and who the murderer is, but everything else will be revealed as the story unfolds. The first five episodes are told from the point of view of a new person. Episode 6 is where it all comes together, and the full truth is revealed before a very strong ending.

The devil is in the details

That Night is all about three sisters trying their best to help and support each other. However, in the process, they will end up bringing harm to both themselves and each other. Not least after the youngest sister kills a man, when she hits him with her car during a vacation in the Dominican Republic. The sisters are from Spain and realize it is not a good look… and start making bad choices!

With the narrator changes in That Night, it becomes obvious that the devil is indeed in the details. It’s not that people lie, but they may omit elements that make them look bad. Also, there is so much trauma in this family consisting of three adult sisters, the baby daughter of one of them, and the father of the sisters.

Speaking of the patriarch, he is a piece of work. He has been utilizing their childhood trauma to keep them in line rather than supporting and protecting them. Whenever a new narrator comes into focus, you tend to better understand them. When he became the narrator, I didn’t have that experience. He absolutely ruined their lives (and relationships) in so many unnecessary ways.

The tough ending of the Netflix series That Night

We don’t do spoilers here at Heaven of Horror, so I’m not about to reveal the actual ending of That Night. And no, this isn’t a That Night ending explained segment either. Instead, I just want to assure you that you will get answers in the sixth and final episode of this series. And also, the ending is as strong as it is tough and realistic.

The reason it works so well also has to do with the extremely talented cast. Yes, including that father, whom I was quite annoyed with, but I do recognize that his backstory explains a lot. The father is portrayed by Pedro Casablanc, who you may recognize from the Netflix series Salvador.

The three sisters are portrayed by Clara Galle (Olympo), Claudia Salas (Disforia, Piggy), and Paula Usero (#Luimelia). Also playing key roles are Nüll García (La fiera, Punto Nemo), who is the beating heart in this family, and Alícia Falcó (Billionaires’ Bunker).

Watch That Night on Netflix

The creator of this series is Jason George, but it’s based on the novel by UK author Gillian McAllister. Jason George previously worked on Narcos and Ingobernable before he created the Netflix series Into the Night and the spin-off Yakamoz S-245.

As the writer of the episodes, we also have Lara Sendim on board, and you should recognize her name if you enjoy Spanish genre productions. Not only did she co-write El cuerpo, which has been remade as a South Korean movie and in an Indian version, but she’s also written for previous Netflix hit series. These include God’s Crooked Lines and The Last Night at Tremore Beach.

Lara Sendim is also on board as creative producer, while two directors are behind the six episodes in the series. These two are Jorge Dorado (Mindscape, The Head) and Liliana Torres (Mamífera). This is hardly a classic Friday the 13th release, but it is a very good series if you’re a fan of the crime, thriller, and mystery genres.

That Night premieres on Netflix on March 13, 2026.

– I write reviews and recaps on Heaven of Horror. And yes, it does happen that I find myself screaming, when watching a good horror movie. I love psychological horror, survival horror and kick-ass women. Also, I have a huge soft spot for a good horror-comedy. Oh yeah, and I absolutely HATE when animals are harmed in movies, so I will immediately think less of any movie, where animals are harmed for entertainment (even if the animals are just really good actors). Fortunately, horror doesn't use this nearly as much as comedy. And people assume horror lovers are the messed up ones. Go figure!
