TAROT CURSE on Tubi is a new supernatural horror movie. I loved the use of practical effects throughout. However, the overall plot was rather lackluster. It’s not bad – it just isn’t very good either. Read our full Tarot Curse movie review here!
TAROT CURSE (2025) is a new Tubi Original horror movie. It’s a supernatural horror movie as pretty much all other movies featuring tarot cards as part of the plot. You know the drill; a group of younger friends go through a fortune reading with tarot cards and then all hell breaks loose.

The runtime is just around an hour and a half, but with commercials, it runs a little longer. And hey, I am not one to complain about commercials when they’re the price for getting free content. I’m fine with that—even if it drags out the movie even more than it needs to.

A tarot reading in New Orleans
A group of High School seniors go on a trip to New Orleans to celebrate the birthday of one of them. This is the kind of movie where their parents don’t really exist. Sure, they have a role in dialogue and backstory, but we never really see them.
If we were dealing with college students, then fine, but these are high school students. It all just feels off to me.
In any case, these five friends (three girls, two guys) head off to New Orleans where their fake IDs aren’t doing much for them. Instead, they meet a very strange but also fascinating and strangely alluring man, who takes them to a Tarot fortuneteller.
After this Tarot reading in New Orleans, the tarot curse has clearly been activated. They will soon realize that the Tarot cards predicted what will be their gruesome deaths.

Final Destination vibe and practical effects for the win
The fact that practical effects are used throughout Tarot Curse is a huge plus. You’ll see a great example of the slasher-like practical effects from the very first death in the opening scene.
Following this scene and the activation of the Tarot curse in New Orleans, we enter into Final Destination territory. You may think you know how these kids will die, but it does get very creative. And – again revealed in the opening scene – this curse seems to have a ghost-like presence helping.
This makes for many very creepy moments and any supernatural horror movie that has solid death scenes with delicious practical effects will make many horror fans happy. The story, unfortunately, isn’t as strong as these core elements and that’s a shame.
It’s a good thing we have yet another installment of the Final Destination franchise coming later this year. Check out more on the upcoming horror movie Final Destination: Bloodlines right here >

The new Tubi Original horror movie comes from director Jason Winn, who previously directed Tubi movies such as Deadly Secrets of a Cam Girl (2023) and The Murdaugh Murders based on a true crime case.
The Tarot Curse screenplay comes from writers Dean Loftis and Mary O’Neil. Previously, Mary O’Neil has written on the Tubi movies Sinister Surgeon and You Shouldn’t Have Let Me In). To me, the story isn’t nearly strong enough, but the practical effects and creative death scenes are enough reason for horror fans to check it out for free on Tubi.

Tarot Curse stars Lauren Chanel, Kamarion Miller (Them), Triston Dye (Fear the Walking Dead), Evelyn Kim, and Selena Turner in the lead roles. I can easily imagine we’ll be seeing a lot more of quite a few of these young actors.
As mentioned earlier, I’m not thrilled with the choice to have the main characters be High School students as it would’ve made more sense to have them be in college. However, the actors all deliver believable performances and do what is required.
Tarot Curse (2025) is out on Tubi from February 21, 2025.
