SOMETHING VERY BAD IS GOING TO HAPPEN on Netflix is a series with eight episodes, and the most unique and amazing plot. This is a terrifying, brutal, romantic, and absolutely insane series that totally took my breath away. I loved it from episode 1, and that never stopped. SOMETHING VERY BAD IS GOING TO HAPPEN is a Netflix horror series that utilizes both psychological horror and supernatural horror. Both will play key parts as the plot evolves in wild and often unexpected ways. If you enjoy episode 1, which I adored, then you can expect that you’ll love it until the very final moments of the eighth and final episode.

I watched all eight episodes for this review, and I was ready to give up sleep to keep watching. This Netflix horror series just may be my soulmate. The casting is nothing less than perfection, with Camila Morrone in the all-important lead, delivering a stellar performance that stays with you. Even the soundtrack works wonders – you’ll probably get Paul Anka’s “You Are My Destiny” on your mind!

A twisted romantic horror tale
Admittedly, I expected to like Something Bad Is Going to Happen, but at the same time, I had no idea what to expect. I only knew about the cast (I’ll get to that) and the core plot, which sounds intriguing but also suitably vague. For this review, there will be no spoilers, and I highly recommend you avoid any reveals before watching it. Just do a deep dive into this and watch it as fast as you can!
We meet Rachel (Camila Morrone) and Nicky (Adam DiMarco) as they’re heading to his family’s cabin in the woods, where they will get married. They appear to be very much in love and have a strong relationship. This is about to stand the test. Well, many tests, as it were.
Over the course of the eight episodes in Something Bad Is Going to Happen, we will follow the bride and groom in the week leading up to the wedding. Actually, the weirdness begins before they even get to their destination. Horror fans should love the dark and sinister vibe of the ride there. Once they arrive, new and even stranger elements come into play, and it’s tricky for Rachel to get her bearings.
The same must be said for us, the audience, so we’re right there with Rachel as the countdown to their wedding happens. Of course, the title frame, which ominously fills up the entire screen, will be a constant reminder that something bad is indeed going to happen.
Another Red Wedding or Happily Ever After?
Will Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen turn into a modern-day “Red Wedding”? Or could it all turn out so that we get a happy ending where everyone lives happily ever after? Well, this is a horror series, so it won’t all end with rainbows and unicorns. I can tell you that much.
Regardless of that final episode, which is where everything comes together (or falls apart), the ride there is amazing as well. And this is not least thanks to the stellar casting.
As already mentioned, Camila Morrone (Daisy Jones & The Six, The Night Manager, Death Wish) is simply perfect as Rachel. The character has a lot of baggage and is very honest about that, so what you see is what you get. And it’s fairly easy to relate to her, because she is upfront and honest about her fears, hopes, and faith in life.
As her fiancé, we get Adam DiMarco (The White Lotus, Undertone) playing Nicky. He also comes across as a perfect gentleman, who says and does all the right things. Once we meet his parents, we quickly recognize that this is something he was raised to become.
The new in-laws and a weird stranger
His parents are portrayed by two brilliant genre legends: Jennifer Jason Leigh (Dolores Claiborne, Single White Female, Annihilation) is his mom, Victoria, and Ted Levine (The Silence of the Lambs, Shutter Island, The Hills Have Eyes) portrays his dad, Boris. They have been married for decades and stick together, but the family is quite difficult to get a handle on at first.
Also in the “cabin in the woods” family are Gus Birney (The Last Frontier, Black Rabbit) as Nicky’s sister, Portia, Jeff Wilbusch (Unorthodox, Keep Breathing) as his brother, Jules. Plus, Karla Crome (Lazarus) as Jules’ wife, Nell. All three will impact the days leading up to the wedding, but the latter are especially involved. And perfectly portrayed.
Finally, we have Zlatko Burić (The Bride!, Triangle of Sadness) in a key role that I will not reveal here. You will meet him in the very first episode, but this will not be the last time you see him. Not even close!
Watch Something Bad Is Going to Happen on Netflix
In the press material, Something Bad Is Going to Happen is described as an “eight-episode atmospheric horror show”, and I think that sums it up very accurately. It comes from creator and showrunner Haley Z. Boston, who also wrote for Brand New Cherry Flavor, Hunters, and Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities.
Emmy nominee Weronika Tofilska (Baby Reindeer) directs four episodes and executive produces. Also directing episodes are the amazing Axelle Carolyn (The Haunting of Bly Manor) and Lisa Brühlmann (Killing Eve, Servant). The Duffer Brothers (Stranger Things), Hilary Leavitt (Stranger Things), and Andrea Sperling (A Murder at the End of the World) are executive producers.
You know a show is good when you find yourself almost mourning the fact that you can never rewatch it again for the first time. Getting that initial experience of not knowing what will happen and seeing things evolve in ways you did not expect is a treat I will always revere. Fortunately for you, it’s a treat that Something Bad Is Going to Happen delivers in spades. Enjoy…I already envy you!
