Oasis – Review | Netflix Series

OASIS on Netflix is a thriller mystery series from Spain. It has eight episodes, and most of the characters are young adults. I mention this because I know not everyone wants to watch a series with teenagers, while others seek these out. For me, the most important thing is the plot, and this one did intrigue me. OASIS is a Netflix series from Spain, and we’re getting a thriller mystery with eight episodes. If you think eight episodes sound like a lot, then I would agree. With That Night, which I really enjoyed, we got six episodes. As a rule (which can always be broken), I feel six episodes tend to be better for these thriller mysteries.

Well, for me anyway.

Oasis did become a bit too hormonal, teen-frenzied for me. Having said that, I do think this has a very high production quality and interesting characters. It just didn’t have to be eight episodes, as it could have been a much stronger series. More importantly, I think more viewers would finish it faster.

But hey, I could be wrong, and viewers happily binge-watch all eight episodes. I could not do that!

What is Oasis?

The Spanish Netflix series is named after the location where it plays out. Oasis is a luxurious holiday resort, where there is a clear distinction between being wealthy and being filthy rich. Even more important, there are those who work there and the ones who vacation there.

The Oasis resort is a vacation paradise for only the wealthiest families. This means private beaches, VIP facilities, and very impressive security. As a result, everyone should be able to feel safe there, so the drama is very real when something terrible happens.

It all begins when the police storm the resort because someone has disappeared. Of course, the police react in an extreme way due to the people staying there and other crimes being investigated. Now, everyone is a suspect, and this does not sit well with the wealthy clientele.

Nor does it with those who work there, as they are all aware that they could pay the price of this crime. Both because it’s easier to charge them than those who “lawyer up” immediately, and because they are the usual suspects when something goes wrong.

Lots of characters to keep track of

Fair warning: Oasis has a lot of characters. This includes both the younger characters and their parents, bosses, and the police investigators. You’ll need to stay focused if you want to stay on top of this mystery plot.

Also, if you want to know who is dating, having affairs, trying to do business, or just plain trying to survive this summer.

Oasis stars Ana Garcés (The Promise), Tomy Aguilera (Welcome to Eden), and Victoria Kantch (Por tus muertos). The cast also includes Manel Duarte, Berta Castañé (Follow My Voice), Ada Molina, Cande Méndez, Alex Mola (La Calima), Laura Simón (Offshore), Jan Buxaderas (Every Side of the Bed), Amanda Palomino (Gastronauts), and Blas Polidori (Society of the Snow).

Oasis comes from the creators of The Cable Girls and The Asunta Case. The first is an extremely popular series that ran for several seasons, while the second was based on a true crime case. To be precise, this new Netflix series is created by Ramón Campos, Jon de la Cuesta Olaizola, Javier Chacártegui Horrach, David Orea Arribas, and Ricardo Jornet Gallego.

As someone who enjoys these Spanish productions, I can always appreciate the impressive production quality and talent of the cast. For this particular story, I wasn’t totally on board with the plot. As mentioned initially, the teen drama took up too much space for me, and I would rather follow the workers than the wealthy guests.

We do follow both, but I preferred the “real” people. Still, I expect this new Spanish Netflix series will make plenty of subscribers happy. It has so much of what other hit series have offered: Hot, young people getting it on with each other, while a scary mystery and “bad guys” lurk somewhere in the back.

So, give it a shot and see if it’s your jam or not. It wasn’t mine, but then again, I obviously am not the target demographic for this show.
