MILK & SERIAL (2024) is a found-footage horror film made with an $800 budget. It has now gone viral and after having watched it – it was actually my Friday the 13th watch – I can understand why.
It’s available for all to watch for free on YouTube, where it was posted on August 9, 2024. Having heard people rave about it all over the Internet (horror fans especially), I did not regret watching it as my Friday the 13th newcomer choice!

So simple, yet so brilliant
I started watching Milk & Serial without knowing anything about it. After seeing people rave about it, I figured I should give it a shot, and I am so happy I did.
You don’t need to know too much about the plot. Just enjoy the characters and how the movie shifts and twists our perspective several times.
It all begins with two YouTube pranksters, who always try to outdo one another with crazier pranks. When a surprise birthday prank goes a bit too far, the two young men are forced to face the reality of their actions.
Welcome to horror, Curry Barker!
I definitely did not regret watching Milk & Serial on Friday the 13th. It’s a day usually reserved for rewatching horror classics, while I also try to add something new.
Never before have I been this impressed with a newcomer choice for a Friday the 13th. In fact, this could be a movie I’ll end up rewatching on the iconic horror movie date.
As Milk & Serial is available to watch for free on YouTube, this means that there are commercial breaks (just like on Tubi), and I am fine with that.
Hell, I’d watch this 100 times over to make sure more money goes to everyone who worked on it. I feel the same way about all the horror shorts on YouTube. Gladly, I watch them over and over again – Lights Out is a great example!
More from the filmmaker
I cannot wait to see what filmmaker (and star) Curry Barker does next. Fortunately, he is part of the YouTube channel That’s a Bad Idea with the channel description: “Meet Curry and Coop, a horrible sketch comedy duo!”
Coop is Cooper Tomlinson, who is equally amazing in this horror thriller, as a prankster alongside Curry Barker. On their channel, they have made and released a lot of shorts and sketches.
DO CHECK OUT
It’s mostly comedy, but often with a nice edge and great twists. And there are several horror shorts on there as well. Including the award-winning 2023 horror short The Chair.
Remember that Jordan Peele was also a comedian before his horror movie feature film debut with Get Out.

Milk & Serial is a horror movie written and directed by Curry Barker who also stars in it as the character “Milk”. The less you know about it, the better. It has a lot of very nice twists and turns, and you should experience them for yourself.
Fingers crossed that Curry Barker (and Cooper Tomlinson) also keep working with genre film. After all, the Talk to Me filmmakers also started as YouTubers.
The runtime is just over one hour long, but you almost wish it would’ve continued. This is yet another example that budget can never replace talent and passion.
We’ve watched many movies with huge budgets that this one surpasses by far!
