Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed – Review | Apple TV Series

MAXIMUM PLEASURE GUARANTEED is an Apple TV series with 10 episodes, each just over half an hour in runtime, and chock-full of great characters. Tatiana Maslany stars in the all-important lead role, and I don’t mind saying that I would watch anything she stars in. I may not like it, but I’ll give it a shot.

And yes, I do like this one. Not just because of Tatiana Maslany (though that would admittedly be enough to keep me watching in this case), but also the plot and the rest of the characters. It evolves in unexpected ways and has plenty of cringeworthy and shocking moments throughout. A solid thriller-mystery!

Don’t mess with Paula!

Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed is focused on the newly divorced mom, Paula (Tatiana Maslany), who finds herself in trouble. A lot of trouble. And, unfortunately, she isn’t the best at getting out of trouble. In fact, she tends to get into more trouble as she goes into battle against her current situation.

Before long, she falls down the proverbial rabbit hole. In Paula’s case, this involves blackmail, murder, and youth soccer. What begins as her trying to help someone (a male online escort, is probably the best way to describe him), ends in murder.

At first, Paula is convinced she witnessed a brutal crime against her online entertainment (and pseudo therapist), but the police are quick to warn her that she could be getting scammed. All of this happens just as she is in the midst of a semi-ugly custody battle.

As a result, Paula starts investigating on her own. Not without results, I might add, but she also manages to get into a fresh kind of Hell that she could’ve easily avoided. However, that’s simply not Paula’s style.

Tatiana Maslany shines as Paula

Obviously, Tatiana Maslany (The Monkey, Keeper) isn’t the only person in the cast, but she is pure magic in Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed. Not unlike Rhea Seehorn in Pluribus. On a different level, and in different ways, but if you’ve watched Orphan Black, you’ll know that Tatiana Maslany is no stranger to carrying an entire show!

In any case, while she breathes life into the character of Paula, the worldbuilding is created thanks to an entire cast of amazing talent. From Jake Johnson (New Girl) as her estranged husband to Murray Bartlett (The Last of Us, The White Lotus, Opus) in the role of a mysterious stranger.

Also in key supporting roles, you’ll see Brandon Flynn (Hellraiser), Jessy Hodges (Barry), Jon Michael Hill (Elementary), Charlie Hall (Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story), Kiarra Hamagami Goldberg (Invasion), Nola Wallace (The Strangers: Chapter 2 & 3), and Dolly De Leon (Nine Perfect Strangers).

As Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed evolves, not only will you meet more characters, you’ll also learn new things about the characters you thought you knew already. It’s a real trip, and with a cast this good, it’s a pleasure as well.

Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed comes from creator and showrunner David J. Rosen. Most recently, David Rosen has worked on series such as Citadel, Sugar (2024), Invasion, and Hunters. This latest production comes from Apple Studios.

David J. Rosen is a writer, executive producer, and showrunner on his own creation. On the director side, we also see a very familiar name for horror fans in David Gordon Green (Halloween, Scarpetta). Also directing are Alethea Jones (Peacemaker), Daniel Sackheim (True Detective S3, Lovecraft Country), and Damon Thomas (Killing Eve, The Veil, My Best Friend’s Exorcism).

The series is also executive produced by Simon Kinberg and Audrey Chon for Genre Films under their first-look deal with Apple TV; Bard Dorros for Anonymous Content; and Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, and Elise Henderson for Counterpart Studios.

This all-new 10-episode series will premiere with the first two episodes, followed by new episodes every Wednesday. The season 1 finale comes out on July 15, 2026.
