MAN FINDS TAPE is a new supernatural thriller made as a found footage mockumentary. We’ve seen quite a few of these before, and they tend to either work really well or not at all. This one belongs firmly in the first category and is engaging and fascinating throughout. Read our full Man Finds Tape movie review here!
MAN FINDS TAPE is a new found footage genre gem. A supernatural thriller presented as a mockumentary. Most works extremely well for this movie, just as we’ve seen it with several indie and low-budget productions in the past. And oh-so-many bigger-budget productions have tried to copy the style, but lacked the passion (or talent) for the project.
With Man Finds Tape, it is once again made obvious why this found-footage mockumentary niche is still relevant and can be so efficient. The cast is small, but very strong and organic in their portrayals, and both the plot and storytelling work well. There’s a little with the pacing that wasn’t optimal, but I would give it a 3½ if we did half ratings here at Heaven of Horror.

From YouTube fame to infamous
In Man Finds Tape, it all begins with Lucas Page (William Magnuson) finding a tape. Yes, he is the title character, who begins a YouTube channel called “Man Finds Tape”. As a YouTuber, Lucas goes viral with a series of creepy home videos. Videos recorded of him as a child, which he had no idea about and cannot remember.
Was his family in a cult? How exactly did they die? And what is going on with this small town Lucas and his sister, Lynn, grew up in?! Before he can find these answers, Lucas is forced to abandon his YouTube channel in a way that turns his fame to infamy. You’ll see!
Some time later, Lucas reaches out to his sister, Lynn (Kelsey Pribilski), and asks for her help. He has surveillance footage of a murder that happened in their hometown, and this is enough to lure her back in. Well, reluctantly, but still. Lynn returns to help her brother investigate the homicide.
This is what becomes the mockumentary we’re essentially watching in the movie Man Finds Tape.
So much more sinister than expected
Okay, I don’t know what I expected from Man Finds Tape, but I do know it turned out to be a lot more sinister than I expected. It has some deliciously dark turns along the way. It all really begins when Lynn uncovers a disturbing secret tied to the local church.
It’s a decades-old supernatural phenomenon that I will not reveal here. The reveal of it all made me gasp out loud, which is a huge compliment.
There’s also a stranger (Brian Villalobos) who arrives and seems to be able to impact events. But the how and why of it all is not for me to tell, but for you to experience. And enjoy, not least thanks to the wonderful cast.
In a smaller role, but perhaps most recognizable in the cast, is Graham Skipper. I certainly recognized him from a whole slew of genre movies. These include titles such as Suitable Flesh, Christmas Bloody Christmas, Scare Package II: Rad Chad’s Revenge, Bliss, Dementia: Part II, and All the Creatures Were Stirring.

Man Finds Tape was co-directed and co-written by filmmakers Peter Hall and Paul Gandersman. This is the feature film debut for both filmmakers in the roles of writer and director. However, they have worked as producers in the past – mostly Paul Ganderman, but both produced a segment of the first Scare Package anthology.
Producers on Man Finds Tape also feature some very familiar genre names. In particular, a personal favorite filmmaker duo: Aaron Moorhead & Justin Benson. These two genre filmmakers have given us Things Will Be Different, Synchronic, Archive 81, and Moon Knight.
Also on board as an executive producer is C. Robert Cargill (The Black Phone 1 & 2, The Gorge) and Jessica Cargill (House of Ashes). The runtime is 86 minutes, and we get delicious practical effects alongside CGI that also works. We are, admittedly, very close to a 4 out of 5 rating, so only details are keeping the grade a little lower. Do not miss out on this one!
MAN FINDS TAPE is out In Select Theaters & On Demand on December 5, 2025.
