LITTLE DISASTERS is now on Paramount+, which is about time. The British production aired on Paramount+ in the UK back in May 2025, so it’s high time for this international release. This also means you need to be careful to avoid spoilers, as there is plenty of talk about this series online already.
While labeled simply as a “drama” on IMDb, this is much more of a thriller mystery. It features a heartbreaking story of a mother accused of having harmed her own infant daughter. Everyone will start questioning what they believe – as will the audience, no doubt – but just let the story unfold. Answers to all the key questions will come in the end.

The less you know, the better…
While I knew the core plot of Little Disasters, I don’t think you need to know much more. It’s a mystery, after all, so you need to watch it all unfold and take it in without knowing too much ahead of time.
Little Disasters begins when Jess (Diane Kruger) takes her baby to the hospital. Her husband wakes her up in the middle of the night because the infant girl is clearly sick, and he can’t take her because he’s been drinking. So, Jess gets up and arrives at the hospital with what turns out to be an unexplained head injury.
As she arrives at the hospital, it’s her close friend, the doctor Liz (Jo Joyner), who ends up having the baby as her patient. This also means Liz will have to make the heartbreaking decision to call social services when Jess has no reasonable explanation for the head injury of her baby.
Within hours, this results in an explosive chain of events, where trust and loyalty are put on the line.
The cast alone should draw you in
Obviously, the plot of Little Disasters is heartbreaking. A baby has been injured, and her mother (along with the rest of the household) is accused of having caused the injury. This is an absolute nightmare for anyone, as it’s obvious that while Jess, the baby’s mother, is struggling, she would do anything for her baby.
To better understand everyone in this limited series, we see how a group of mothers met while pregnant. And also, how their friendship has evolved over the years. Jess has always been the wonder mom, but something has changed in recent months, and we need to see how she used to be to truly recognize this change.
Diane Kruger (Inglorious Basterds) delivers a powerful and heartbreaking portrayal of Jess, as does Jo Joyney (Harlan Coben’s Stay Close) as Liz, who has to do her job as a doctor… even though it tears her apart. It quickly becomes a heartbreaking and twisted story about motherhood, expectations, and judgment.
Alongside Diane Kruger and Jo Joyner, we also see JJ Feild (The Peripheral), Shelley Conn (Gen V), and Emily Taaffe (His House). Plus, Stephen Campbell Moore (Criminal Record), Ben Bailey Smith (Black Mirror), and Patrick Baladi are in key roles.

The new psychological thriller on Paramount+ is based on the bestselling novel by Sarah Vaughan. She also wrote the novel that was adapted into the Anatomy of a Scandal mini-series on Netflix. And yes, I think I can safely call myself a fan of her thrillers by now.

All six episodes are released on Paramount+ as Little Disasters premieres, and Eva Sigurðardóttir directed all six episodes. While it isn’t necessary for one director to direct an entire mini-series, I do tend to like it when that happens. It just makes for an even stronger and more cohesive style of storytelling.
Little Disasters is out on Paramount+ on December 11, 2025.
