HIM is a sports horror movie out on Peacock. It could also be described as a cautionary tale about the need to try to achieve perfection and the desire for fame. It is so full of symbolism that it definitely won’t be for everyone. Read our full Him 2025 horror movie review here!

HIM is a 2025 horror movie now on Peacock. It is full of symbolism, which is just one reason why people haven’t been crazy about it. For me, there was a lot that I did like and also a few things I felt were lacking. I loved the whole psychological horror vibe and the many references to religion, as famous athletes do tend to be worshipped.

If you watch it without expectations, I think you’ll enjoy it more. I can certainly see why Jordan Peele got involved with this, as it has many of the elements he has used in his three movies: Get OutUs, and Nope. The runtime is just 96 minutes, so it is worth checking out if you’re curious – and ready to watch with an open mind.

What are you ready to give?!

Him is all about the pursuit of greatness. Specifically, becoming the GOAT [Greatest Of All Time], and for Cameron Cade (Tyriq Withers), this means being a football quarterback. The best ever. However, the night before the most important day of his career, he is attacked. A brutal blow to his head has caused what could be a career-ending brain trauma.

Of course, this would make for a very short movie and one that feels more like a drama. Him is no drama, it is a psychological horror movie about doing whatever it takes to be the best. Think WhiplashBlack Swan, or The Perfection, but with much heavier symbolism.

Fortunately, for the young Cam, he is thrown a lifeline by none other than his hero, the actual current GOAT: Isaiah White (Marlon Wayans). He is a true legend who has overcome the most brutal injuries to be an eight-time Championship quarterback.

Also, lest we forget, a cultural megastar with fans who worship him. They’ve practically built a cult around him.

Of course, this lifeline is no picnic: Cameron is invited to an isolated compound that feels like part museum, part gym. A home Isaiah shares with his influencer wife, Elsie White (Julia Fox). The training regime Cam will encounter is unlike anything he has tried before. It will put the saying “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” to the ultimate test.

Him – Review | Sports Horror Movie

Marlon Wayans and Tyriq Withers shine

Whatever you think about the movie, you cannot deny the fact that Marlon Wayans and Tyriq Withers shine as the star quarterback and the up-and-coming football player dreaming of taking his place. All while still idolizing the man as well.

Marlon Wayans has done a lot of comedy, but he can clearly handle this much darker role as well. I hope to see him in a lot more genre productions – whether feature film or series, Marlon Wayans has exactly the kind of intensity I adore.

Starring as the title character, or the one who dreams of becoming Him, we have the former college wide receiver Tyriq Withers (I Know What You Did Last Summer) as Cameron Cade. I love the energy and grit Tyriq Whithers brings to his performance, and the scenes with both Tyriq Whithers and Marlon Wayans are pure gold.

The film also stars Tim Heidecker (Us) and comedian Jim Jefferies. Plus, we see hip hop phenoms Guapdad 4000 and Grammy nominee Tierra Whack, both in their feature film debuts.

Watch Him (2025) on Peacock now

HIM comes from director Justin Tipping (Dare Me, Joe vs Carole) and was co-written by Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie (co-creators of Limetown starring Jessica Biel). The screenplay is an acclaimed BlackList screenplay, which was also the case with Anniversary, though I did enjoy that movie more.

Jordan Peele is, as already mentioned, one of the producers via his Monkeypaw Productions company. If you’re a fan of Jordan Peele movies (all of them), then I think you’ll get something out of watching this movie as well.

Maybe I got more out of this movie because I had waited so long to watch it after the rather harsh critique it got. I am nowhere near a top rating either, but at the same time, I could never call this “rotten” or tell you to skip it.

Of course, if you like your stories served straight-up and are not a fan of psychological horror movies full of symbolism, then this probably isn’t for you. On the other hand, if you’ve enjoyed movies like Mother! or Black Swan, then surely, this is something you can appreciate as well.

HIM is streaming on Peacock from December 19, 2025.

– I write reviews and recaps on Heaven of Horror. And yes, it does happen that I find myself screaming, when watching a good horror movie. I love psychological horror, survival horror and kick-ass women. Also, I have a huge soft spot for a good horror-comedy. Oh yeah, and I absolutely HATE when animals are harmed in movies, so I will immediately think less of any movie, where animals are harmed for entertainment (even if the animals are just really good actors). Fortunately, horror doesn't use this nearly as much as comedy. And people assume horror lovers are the messed up ones. Go figure!
