HIJACK Season 2 is coming to Apple TV, and yes, Idris Elba is back to star – and once again finds himself at the very center of a hijacking crisis. Again, we need to get to the how and why of it all, so there’s plenty of mystery to this second season. It just doesn’t have the same intensity or energy. At least not for me. Read our Hijack S2 review here!

HIJACK Season 2 on Apple TV moves the hijacking from a plane to a train. However, yes, Idris Elba is still the star of the show. Also, it plays out in Berlin this time, which makes for yet another very diverse and international set of characters. I mean, not only is Berlin a very international city due to tourism, but it also has students and workers from all over the world.

Our review of the first Hijack season here >

This time around, Idris Elba will be at the heart of the hijacking situation as revealed by the trailer. Don’t worry, it’s not like this is a huge reveal, as Idris Elba’s character has always been at the center of the action in this series. This time, he is very involved with the hijacking, but over the course of the eight-episode season 2, we need to find out what’s really going on.

Sam Nelson is back… and angry

With Hijack season 2, the story once again stars Idris Elba as Sam Nelson. After the 7-hour hijacked flight in season 1, he is now riding a train instead of stepping onto a plane. Before the end of episode 1, we will know that the Berlin underground train we’ve been following in a frenzied morning commute has been hijacked.

Just like with the flight in season 1, both the actual underground train and all its commuters are taken hostage.

As already stated, we once again find negotiator, Sam Nelson (Idris Elba), at the heart of the crisis on board. The trailer deals with the hijacking motives and assumes it’s either about justice or revenge. Could it be that simple, or is there more to this train hijacking crisis?

Hijack Season 2 – Review | Apple TV Thriller Series

The cast of Hijack season 2

With lots of lives on the line, every single decision (or lack thereof) could result in many lives lost. While we will meet quite a few of the characters from Hijack season 1, we will also meet many new characters. Not least due to the setting of this second season in Berlin.

Hijack Season 2 reunites Idris Elba, Christine Adams, Max Beesley, and Archie Panjabi from the first season.

Newcomers for this second season include Christian Näthe (Mute), Clare-Hope Ashitey (Constellation, Criminal: United Kingdom), Lisa Vicari (Django, Dark), Toby Jones (The Pale Blue Eye, The Wonder), Karima McAdams (Dune: Prophecy, The Wheel of Time), and Christiane Paul (8 Days, Concordia, American Sweatshop).

Despite my less-than-enthusiastic opinion of this second season, I did enjoy the cast and liked the actors and their characters. There was just something about this plot that did not win me over during those first episodes. Usually, I like to watch as much as possible when reviewing a series, but with season 2 of Hijack, I wouldn’t have watched the whole thing even if I had the option.

Getting viewers excited early on is even more important when the season isn’t released as a whole, but rather with weekly episodes.

Maybe I expected too much from season 2 of Hijack. Sure, it has been highly anticipated by audiences worldwide, and not just little ol’ me, but I can’t say it worked as well for me this time around. More felt forced or even predictable (not all of it, obviously), and so I wasn’t really happy with it overall. With an episode released weekly, the season 2 finale is coming to Apple TV on March 4, 2026.

Hijack season two premieres globally on Apple TV on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.

– I write reviews and recaps on Heaven of Horror. And yes, it does happen that I find myself screaming, when watching a good horror movie. I love psychological horror, survival horror and kick-ass women. Also, I have a huge soft spot for a good horror-comedy. Oh yeah, and I absolutely HATE when animals are harmed in movies, so I will immediately think less of any movie, where animals are harmed for entertainment (even if the animals are just really good actors). Fortunately, horror doesn't use this nearly as much as comedy. And people assume horror lovers are the messed up ones. Go figure!
