HACKED: A DOUBLE ENTENDRE OF RAGE FUELED KARMA is a horror comedy based on a very unfortunate true crime event: Losing $20,000. Then turning it into a fantasy adventure revenge story. Talk about making lemonade from lemons. Read our full Hacked: A Double Entendre of Rage-Fueled Karma movie review here!
HACKED: A DOUBLE ENTENDRE OF RAGE-FUELED KARMA is coming out on VOD and DVD, and I absolutely recommend that you check it out. Sure, the rating of this movie is “just” 3 out of 5, but please don’t take that to mean that this isn’t worth your time.
This is a movie that goes crazy along the way. The fourth wall is broken several times as real-life facts and details are mixed with the fictitious story inspired by an awful true crime event. I had a lot of fun watching this movie. I think most film and documentary fans will as well.

One mistake cost them $20,000
Hacked (which has the full title that also includes “A Double Entendre of Rage-Fueled Karma”) is the story of the Rumble family. They are getting ready to buy their first home. In fact, they are just one down payment away from moving out of their rental and becoming homeowners.
Unfortunately, they have a terrible bank with even worse employees, which makes it far too easy for someone to steal their life savings. Instead of completing the down payment transfer, Florida’s most elusive hacker, “The Chameleon”, steals their $20,000.
An absolute nightmare begins, where the bank won’t help, and the Rumbles appear to have no way of securing their new home. Not only does the bank fail them, but the police also claim to have their hands tied. As a result, they plot a revenge-fueled attack on the hacker. Trust me, their revenge is fun to watch!
The Chameleon clearly messed with the wrong family.
Making lemonade out of lemons
It’s pretty tricky to explain Hacked without giving away too many of the details that you really should find out as the story evolves. Perhaps one of the best ways to describe it would be by comparing it to One Cut of the Dead. This was a Japanese horror-comedy that we gave a top rating!
Sure, it is very strange and evolved in weird ways, but the further along you get, the more it makes sense. Also, the filmmakers are very aware that they need to keep you engaged and on board. Hence, the use of breaking the fourth wall and speaking directly to you. All to make important points.
Also, make sure you stick around until the very end, as there is an update on their lives. Both in regard to their overall lives and losing the $20,000. Actually, there’s also a fun reveal about their family constellation, which I personally loved.

Hacked is based on the all-too-true events that happened to Writer-Director Shane Brady and Producer Emily Zercher. I applaud their ability to turn this unfortunate event into a source of entertainment for the rest of us. Also, a cautionary tale, but I’m not sure how many of us wouldn’t have fallen for this one!
The film stars Chandler Riggs, who finally got to cut his hair now that he’s done playing “Carl Grimes” on The Walking Dead. Also starring are Owen Atlas (Little Evil), Collin Thompson, Richard Riehle (The Invisible Raptor), Katelyn Nacon (The Walking Dead), and Shane Brady (Breathing Happy).
Also in the movie are NHL Hall of Famer and Founder of the Tampa Bay Lightning Phil Esposito, Augie Duke (Mayans M.C.), Hugh Scott (Deadpool), Brittney Escalante (9-1-1: Lone Star), Glenn Stanton (Chicago Fire), and Mia Castillo (The Fairly Odd Parents: Fairly Odder).
It’s also worth noting that the filmmakers are intent on paying all the good things forward. Including having the film use music from rock band Underoath, and prominently featuring charities NMDP, a global nonprofit leader in cell therapy, and TSC Alliance, dedicated to tuberous sclerosis research and support.
Hacked enjoyed its world premiere at the Gasparilla International Film Festival. It went on to screen at Popcorn Frights Film Festival, FilmQuest, the Chattanooga Film Festival, Celluloid Screams, and the Soho Horror Film Festival. I can imagine film festival audiences have had a blast watching this in theaters.
