GANNIBAL: SEASON 2 is a Hulu / Disney+ series from Japan. It’s the kind of story that tends to leave you in shock and awe at some point in each episode. For the first episode of season 2, be ready for the intro to come towards the end.
Do not stop the episode at this point as there is an additional 5 minutes of runtime. You do not want to miss what happens during those minutes. This is a Disney+ series released on Hulu and Disney+ and we’re getting two episodes for the season 2 premiere.

We pick up where season 1 ended
Gannibal: Season 2 (ガンニバル シーズン2) continues the story from Season 1. Don’t worry though, there is a recap at the beginning of episode 1. While it’s a quick recap, it does help you remember the events of that first season.
It was certainly enough to bring it all back for me. I think I had forgotten just how brutal and heartbreaking this series was in certain ways. The recap along with these first episodes of season 2 reminded me fast enough.
Not only are we dealing with cannibals, but children are being kept as livestock. Born and raised to be consumed. Never having any real life or knowing any joy. This is what Korean series usually offer us and this Japanese production feels very South Korean.
In all the best ways.

The plot of Gannibal Season 2
The beautiful village of Kuge is at the heart of Gannibal and this doesn’t change for season 2. Nor does the fact that police officer Agawa Daigo has discovered many elements of the secrets that have long stayed hidden.
Bringing these secrets out in the light (which means sharing them with outsiders) brings Agawa Daigo on a collision path with the powerful Goto family. From the first season, we know that the Goto family will stop at nothing to protect the village’s secret.
In case you had forgotten, you will be reminded of their brutal ways from the very first episode of the second series. Whether in flashbacks or current actions, their cruelty and readiness for violence come across as absolutely terrifying.
Can police officer Agawa Daigo accept the shocking truth of the madness of the villagers? And what is the secret of the cursed Goto family? Without knowing everything, can he even fight them?!
Most importantly, can he protect his family while going against the Goto family? Season 1 would tell us all that he cannot, and he isn’t off to a great start in season 2 either.
Watch season 2 of Gannibal on Hulu or Disney+ now
Gannibal is directed by Katayama Shinzo, who worked as an Assistant Director under Bong Joon-ho previously. This explains why his style is so wonderfully similar to that of the very best South Korean filmmakers.
I love Katayama Shinzo’s style just like I love so many productions from South Korea.
The cast of season 1 is largely back for this second season. We have Yagira Yuya as Agawa Daigo, Kasamatsu Sho as Goto Keisuke, and Yoshioka Riho as Agawa Yuki. Also, Takasugi Mahiro, Kita Kana, Sugita Rairu, and many other amazing cast members return.
The second season of Gannibal (ガンニバル シーズン2) premieres with the first two episodes which should be more than enough to draw you back in. After that, you’ll have to wait for weekly releases. And honestly, this is so dark it may be good that you can’t binge-watch it.
Gannibal Season 2 is on Hulu (and Disney+ worldwide) on March 19, 2025.
