DEATH WHISPERER 2 is a new Netflix horror movie addition from Thailand (org. title: Tee Yod 2). As the title reveals, this is a horror sequel. One we knew was coming, as the sequel was already known when the first movie was released on Netflix in 2024.

BE SURE TO CHECK OUT

Our review of the 2023 movie Death Whisperer which came out on Netflix last year >

Once again, the runtime is close to two hours and it does feel too long. This is the main issue I had with it – along with CGI over practical effects – which means it is still worth watching.

Three years have passed…

When Death Whisperer 2 (org. title: Tee yod 2) opens, it’s with a blast from the past. Literally, as we begin in the middle of a battle that took place more than a hundred years ago. And yes, we will be getting back to this later on, as it has to do with the origin story of the curse.

Speaking of the curse, we witnessed a loving family being brutally impacted by this in the first movie. It’s now three years after the death of Yak’s sister, and he continues to hunt down the dark spirit (or demon, if you will) that killed her.

The purpose of this? Revenge, of course.

Also, to make sure that this demonic curse won’t be allowed to hurt anyone else. Yak is that kind of person. A good heart in the body of a superhero. Yak is portrayed by Nadech Kugimiya, who is amazing. I already covered just how amazing I think he is in the review of the first movie, so I’ll spare you a repeat here.

More of the same, but also more CGI

Along with Yak and the same demonic curse (personified by a woman with black teeth), we’re also seeing how the rest of the siblings are doing. All of them are struggling to move on and be happy. All while missing their dead sister and fearing for their brother’s well-being as he keeps hunting down danger.

While we praised the first movie for having gorgeous practical effects, and a distinct Sam Raimi vibe (something the director has confirmed he was going for), Death Whisperer 2 uses more CGI. This is not an improvement and I found myself missing those practical effects.

It’s not terrible either and we’re still getting some practical effects along the way. Also, I have to say that the opening scene hits damn hard. Even despite the obvious CGI, it’s efficient and sets the tone for more brutal darkness.

In this movie, you may see a few familiar faces as Sahatchai Chumrum, who was in both the 2023 movie The Creator and the truly remarkable series Don’t Come Home. Seriously, you’ll want to check out that Netflix horror limited series!

Watch Death Whisperer 2 on Netflix now!

The director of Death Whisperer 2 (org. title: Tee yod 2) is Taweewat Wantha, just as it was for the first movie. Also, the screenwriters are still Sorarat Jirabovornwisut and Palapon Pongpat. It’s still based on “Tee Yod…The Beginning of Madness” by Krittanon, just like the first movie. We are, after all, in the same universe.

This time around, the movie delivers on giving us an actual ending. The first movie was all about leading into this sequel. When the credits roll for Death Whisperer 2, it feels quite definitive.

Of course, any horror fan knows, that nothing is ever over in a horror franchise as long as it’s popular, so we’ll see.

Death Whisperer 2 is on Netflix from February 7, 2025.

Plot

Three years after his sister’s death, Yak relentlessly searches for the dark spirit that killed her in hopes of seeking revenge.

I write reviews and recaps on Heaven of Horror. And yes, it does happen that I find myself screaming, when watching a good horror movie. I love psychological horror, survival horror and kick-ass women. Also, I have a huge soft spot for a good horror-comedy. Oh yeah, and I absolutely HATE when animals are harmed in movies, so I will immediately think less of any movie, where animals are harmed for entertainment (even if the animals are just really good actors). Fortunately, horror doesn't use this nearly as much as comedy. And people assume horror lovers are the messed up ones. Go figure!
