CAUGHT is a new Netflix thriller series based on a Harlan Coben novel. This six-episode miniseries comes from Argentina (org. title: Atrapados), so while details of the story have been changed, the story is very universal.

As is often the case with these Harlan Coben stories, it’s a cautionary tale in more ways than one. Also, it has several twists and turns, so don’t be too confident you have it all figured out early on. The episodes have an average runtime of just around one hour, and the series is binge-worthy.

Not an easy story for this Harlan Coben series

In many ways, Caught (org. title: Atrapados) is like previous Harlan Coben adapted series on Netflix. I mean this in the sense that the story is intense and full of suspense and mystery while also being very character-driven.

Usually, someone dies or goes missing, so it’s always crime-driven in some way. For Caught, however, it does get even darker as we’re dealing with teens (and those younger) being groomed online by adult men. Often, it is for the purpose of meeting, which does not end well for the kids.

With Caught, we’re in the Argentinian Patagonia’s city of Bariloche. Here, journalist Ema Garay (Soledad Villamil) is working in a very specific niche; Along with her team, she umasks criminals who the police have not been able to catch.

By talking to these criminals online and posing as a younger girl, she sets up a meeting, and when the creep shows up, she and her team catch them red-handed on camera and confront them.

Caught – Review | Netflix Harlan Coben Series

Such a cruel fate

Ema Garay is so good at her job and successful in catching criminals that even the police start cooperating with her. However, her life changes in profound ways when she meets the respected and loved social worker, Leo Mercer (Alberto Ammann).

By a brutal twist of fate, he turns out to be the prime suspect in her most recent investigation. While searching for the truth about the disappearance of a 17-year-old girl, Ema Garay must confront some of her personal demons as well.

She will also discover that not everyone likes it when she uncovers these bad guys. This part is something she’s used to, but she hasn’t previously been sleeping with her prime suspect. The fact that she didn’t suspect him at the time doesn’t change many people’s perspective.

However, as is always the case with Harlan Coben stories, we will go down some rabbitholes and wrong paths (without it ever being too overt cases of red herrings) before the truth comes out in its entirety.

Whether for victims or suspects, fate can be fickle and cruel. You may think you have it all figured out, but you can never be sure with these Harlan Coben stories. Caught is no different, so just stick with it and keep an open mind.

Watch Caught on Netflix now!

The six episodes in the Netflix miniseries Caught are directed by Miguel Cohan (Blood Will Tell) and Hernán Goldfrid (The Bronze Garden, Thesis on a Homicide). It’s based on Harlan Coben’s bestselling novel Caught, and he is also an executive producer on the series.

The adaptation comes from director Miguel Cohan (who also serves as showrunner) and Ana Cohan. They also wrote the teleplays alongside María Meira and Gonzalo Salaya. Officially, it’s 6 x 45-minute episodes, but most are actually longer than 45 minutes and closer to one hour.

This is the first Latin American adaptation of his work. Hopefully, it won’t be the last as the style of Argentinian storytelling works perfectly for his stories.

This is the first Latin American adaptation of a Harlan Coben novels, but Netflix has created one Spanish language adaptation in the past. Check it out here >

Not unlike The Secret in Their Eyes, which won an Oscar and starred Soledad Villamil, who also stars in this Netflix series. Somehow, it feels like it’s all coming full circle.

While I have focused on just the Caught characters portrayed by Soledad Villamil and Alberto Ammann, we have many other familiar faces in the Netflix series. Not least, Juan Minujín, Matías Recalt, Fernán Mirás, Mike Amigorena, and Carmela Rivero. A stellar cast!

Caught (org. title: Atrapados) is on Netflix worldwide from March 26, 2025.

Plot

Famed reporter Ema Garay, known for catching criminals, faces a dilemma when the suspect in a teen’s disappearance turns out to be someone close to her.

I write reviews and recaps on Heaven of Horror. And yes, it does happen that I find myself screaming, when watching a good horror movie. I love psychological horror, survival horror and kick-ass women. Also, I have a huge soft spot for a good horror-comedy. Oh yeah, and I absolutely HATE when animals are harmed in movies, so I will immediately think less of any movie, where animals are harmed for entertainment (even if the animals are just really good actors). Fortunately, horror doesn't use this nearly as much as comedy. And people assume horror lovers are the messed up ones. Go figure!
