CANNIBAL MUKBANG is a Female-Driven Horror Movie where the plot is in the title. Also, it’s made with the most gorgeous retro vibe with amazing practical effects. I enjoyed this, even though I felt the need to look away a few times. Read our full Cannibal Mukbang movie review here!
CANNIBAL MUKBANG is a new horror movie about a “mukbanger” eating human flesh. In that sense, the title is also the plot, and this female-driven horror movie does not hold back in any way.
The movie is chock-full of practical effects, and while the entire movie is a visual retro delight, it gets even more retro when we’re seeing memory flashbacks. It’s absolutely wonderful and makes for a very entertaining (and bloody) horror movie.

Feeling hungry yet?
In Cannibal Mukbang, we meet the very kind and shy Mark, who is looking for love but isn’t ready to settle. When he meets Ash in a classic “meet-cute” while they’re both grabbing a snack, he can’t even return her overt attempt to flirt with him. Instead, he hurries away.
However, destiny (or something else) makes sure they get to know each other anyway. Mark is immediately quite smitten with Ash, who clearly feels the same way about him. He’s even familiar with her day job as a “mukbanger” and finds it quite intriguing and even fascinating.
WHAT IS MUKBANG?
Mukbang (and being a “mukbanger”) is to eat food while recording oneself. Usually mukbang refers to consuming vast quantities of food and participating in challenges or asking viewers/fans to suggest what to eat next.
Ash tends to cook all her own food for her videos as a mukbanger and makes a living doing this. She has sponsors and a pretty solid setup. However, Mark soon learns that the food Ash consumes has a very special ingredient that requires bloodshed.
Fortunately, she isn’t your average serial killer. Instead, she has a code – not unlike the one Dexter Morgan lives by.

Gorgeous practical effects and a retro vibe
While Cannibal Mukbang is a very entertaining movie through its story alone, the retro vibe and use of practical effects make it a solid recommendation.
The plot itself deals with some of the deepest human emotions. From hunger and sexuality to revenge. In this movie, you get revenge by consuming the people who have done wrong in the world.
All the characters in this movie tend to be a little over-the-top in exactly the way you’d expect from a horror movie made in this way. The bad guys are very bad, though they can be charming for a hot second when trying to lure in a victim – and you root for the good “guys” when they win.
Even if it means killing and consuming human beings. Actually, I even found myself getting hungry while watching Cannibal Mukbang, which should tell you that the focus on food in the classic mukbang-style is working.

Cannibal Mukbang was written and directed by Aimee Kuge. She’s a Japanese-American independent filmmaker who previously co-produced the sci-fi horror movie Black Eyed Susan. A movie you should definitely check out if you enjoy Cannibal Mukbang. And vice versa.
When this new horror movie is labeled a “Female-Driven Horror Movie,” it isn’t just because it features a woman in the plot. The movie is also directed, written, edited, and produced by women. All while having plenty of men on the screen as well.
And the cast of Cannibal Mukbang is stunning in all the right ways. We have Nate Wise as Mark, April Consalo as Ash, and Clay von Carlowitz as Maverick (Mark’s brother).
Obviously, there are more characters, and all deliver solid and wonderful performances, but these three are the key characters of the story. Be sure to check out this horror movie and experience all the quirky and odd characters of the story.
Cannibal Mukbang is available on Digital and On Demand on March 25, 2025. Also, it will be out on Blu-ray on April 22, 2025, if you want to expand your physical media collection.
