BIGGEST HEIST EVER on Netflix is a new true crime documentary. It comes from the producers of TIGER KING and the story is as crazy though not quite as wild. You may almost find yourself rooting for the criminals. Read our full Biggest Heist Ever movie review here!
BIGGEST HEIST EVER is a new Netflix documentary in the true crime niche. This one doesn’t feature any physical violence. Quite the opposite as the criminals in this case are quite nerdy. And I do use that particular term with affection.
Not that I have affection for the perpetrators of the heist at the center of this case. However, I admittedly find myself impressed and fascinated by what they accomplished. They use our collective prejudice and misconceptions about tech nerds to pull off something huge.

A huge crypto crime
Heather “Razzlekhan” Morgan and Ilya “Dutch” Lichtenstein are the two people who pulled off the biggest heist ever. That isn’t only their crime but also the title of this Netflix true crime documentary. And the heist involved Bitcoins worth several billions.
However, when something exists in code rather than physical currency (like cash or gold), you need to be even more creative when it comes to spending your loot.
This new Netflix true crime documentary is a wild and weird ride but also focuses on how many people were rooting for them. I don’t want to applaud anyone doing crime – well, maybe if they had given millions to charity, I could have been somewhat inclined.
However, I do understand why some people point to the fact that they exposed a weakness that the company [the Cryptocurrency Exchange BitFinex] should have been on top of.
The Bitcoin Bonnie and Clyde
The two masterminds behind the heist are not who you would expect. And that’s exactly what they use to their advantage. Their odd personas – which they exaggerated even more – worked as a brilliant disguise. Maybe even to the point that they got lost in their covers themselves.
Heather R. Morgan presents herself as a cringeworthy rapper with the name “Razzlekhan” while her boyfriend (later husband) is the introverted tech investor Ilya Lichtenstein with the nickname “Dutch”.
Together, the two earned the moniker “Bitcoin Bonnie and Clyde” for the astounding crypto heist, they managed to pull off. This may be a little much as Bonnie and Clyde were notoriously violent whereas Heather and Ilya are not.

This new Netflix documentary comes from Emmy winner Chris Smith. He previously produced the insanely popular (and also quite crazy) Netflix true crime docu-series Tiger King and the various additional movies concerning that case.
Chris Smith also produced and directed the 2019 Netflix documentary Fyre about the infamous Fyre music festival. Also, he worked on the two Netflix documentary series The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann and Bad Vegan: Fame. Fraud. Fugitives.
Both are fascinating true crime documentaries in very different ways. The latter is more relevant for fans of his latest production.
As this is a true crime documentary, both the crime and the fact that Heather Morgan and Ilya Lichtenstein committed the crime, are documented facts. Well, to a point anyway, as much is still steeped in secrecy. You’ll see. The actual cases, however, just ended in November 2024.
Seeing Heather “Razzlekhan” Morgan and Ilya “Dutch” Lichtenstein record themselves being silly and odd while living spy-like existences is fascinating. And seeing how this documentary ends only makes it all seem even stranger. Check it out to see what I mean!
Biggest Heist Ever is on Netflix from December 6, 2024.
