Big Baby – Movie Review (4/5)

BIG BABY is a horror movie with a different kind of killer plot. It’s a slasher that happens as the screenwriter creates the story. Or is it vice versa?! That becomes the question for everyone, including the writer himself. Read our full Big Baby movie review here!

BIG BABY is a killer horror movie, much more deserving of a theatrical release than Ice Cream Man. This one is coming out on VOD, so you can enjoy it at home and save money on theater tickets. I don’t mean to sound bitter, but it is a shame for all horror movies when theatrical releases happen to subpar movies rather than good ones.

Anyway, allow me to get back on track and focus on why you should watch this one. First of all, it has a good plot and a cast that delivers solid performances. Also, it’s deliciously meta with its plot about a screenwriter creating a horror movie script that seems to come from a dream, but also follows him somehow.

A slasher movie with a new villain

When Big Baby opens, we meet a screenwriter, Adam (Brandon Scott), who has a new horror movie out. The movie is being torn to pieces by a horror podcast that ultimately suggests the screenwriter should take his own life.

Yeah, it’s messed up, and watching the screenwriter listen to this podcast is brutal. The podcasters are idiots, but it still hurts.

As a result of listening to their “review” of his script, he wants to give up writing altogether.

Then, on that very same night, he has a dream. Or a nightmare, really. A psycho killer shows up at his house wearing a baby mask and kills his wife. He wakes up in horror (pun intended), and on the suggestion of his wife, Kate (Krsy Fox), he decides to try and create a screenplay based on this nightmare maniac killer.

He’s off to a rough start, but then a new nightmare offers an origin story for him, and he gets going. So does the killer, who seems to be moving from his nightmares into hunting him while he’s awake.

The writer and director of Big Baby is Spider One (Allegoria), who also produced the movie alongside star Krsy Fox (I Live Alone). She is also the editor of this killer horror movie, which works really well. In fact, this could be a franchise, though it’s also a solid stand-alone movie.

Among the executive producers, we also see Cher, which is probably because Chaz Bono is in the cast and also an executive producer. Having the two on board is almost a Spider One stable at this point. They were also part of Little Bites (2024).

Actually, you should pay attention as many familiar actors are in small roles throughout Big Baby.

For me, Big Baby is a true treat for horror fans who enjoy a good slasher and the pop culture references. Not least those involving just how critical some horror movie fans are of new horror productions. You know the kind that hate on everything except their own favorites that were probably made before they themselves were born.

This one should please most kinds of horror fans. There’s a maniac killer, lots of practical effects, a storyline that references horror movies, and the struggles within the genre and its opinionated fans. Overall, Big Baby is definitely the movie I’d recommend you check out this first week of August 2026. It’s a lot of fun… and actually scary!
