The Netflix series Caught ending explained
The ending of the Netflix series Caught did a solid job of explaining the mystery. As such, many plot elements were covered, and we even got to see flashbacks of what happened and confrontations with those who abused or killed.
Still, many are asking for a Caught ending explained, so we’ll get into that by answering some of the questions we’ve come across.
Caught Netflix series plot questions and answers
In the Q&A below, we’ll do our best to cover some of the most asked questions. While some questions revolve around elements of the story, others are about the actual ending. Regardless of what questions you’re sitting with, hopefully, the answers you’re looking for can be found below.
Who killed Martina Schultz in Caught?
Juliana’s son, Armando, accidentally killed Martina when he pushed her down the stairs after finding out she helped frame Leo. When Juliana comes home and finds her son with Martina’s body, she decides to do whatever she can to save her son from the consequences.
Along with Armando (who is much more of a lover than a fighter and just wants to draw), they dump the body in the woods. Also, Juliana (Armando’s mom) goes one step further and places Martina’s phone at Leo’s campsite.
This final action is only done after Leo is reported dead. She figures it won’t hurt him any further.
Who did Martina talk to on the phone all the time?
Martina (Carmela Rivero) talked to Marco, who tricked her into setting up Leo by saying he wanted her help with an intervention.
While Marco wasn’t having an explicit affair with Martina, but rather helped her after an unfortunate hotel meeting with the wealthy Fran Briguel, it does appear that she’s smitten with him. He protected her and continues to be interested in her life, which she loves.
Of course, we all know that Marco is only doing this because he needs Martina to help take Leo down.
How did Martina know Leo?
Leo used to date Martina’s neighbor Juliana. Once Martina mentions this in an off-handed comment to Marco, the plan starts forming in Marco’s mind. He needs the land where Leo is working to help kids, because he’s in financial trouble.
It’s important to note that Marco isn’t actually interested in Marina. She’s an underage girl, and he just needs her for his plan to frame Leo. Marco is happily married with two young daughters of his own.
Is Leo Mercer alive after being shot?
The police never find Leo’s body, and this leads to the feeling that he could be alive. The old rule of any movie (or TV series) is that if you don’t see the actual death and body, then the character could be alive.
In the very final scene of the Netflix series Caught, we finally get to see Leo again. He is alive and well. Even helping a new group of kids. Only not near any lake, but rather in the mountains and the plains.
Was Leo innocent in Harlan Coben’s Caught on Netflix?
Yes, Leo Mercer was innocent in the Netflix series Caught.
Leo never hurt any kids. It was his mission in life to help any child who needed adult guidance. Marco was the guilty one. Not of abusing kids, but rather of framing Leo.
All to get his hands on Leo’s property, which would return to Marco’s family (in which he was the sole heir), if the program for kids was shut down.
Who assaulted Camila?
Unlike what Ema Garay wrongfully reported (due to Marco’s set-up), it wasn’t Leo.
Instead, it was someone unknown who had no other part of the story. It was a serial rapist who assaulted Camila, and had several other victims, who all helped take him down in the end.
Camila’s father had already shot Leo by this time and clearly felt awful about it. Leo was a friend of the family, and the betrayal Camila’s father felt was enough for him to take action.

Who was the first woman we saw Ema Garay confronted on camera?
This was the woman who killed Ema’s husband and left her son, Bruno, without a father. The woman was drunk driving, and in the present, she’s constantly reaching out asking for forgiveness.
Ema did not want to forgive and accused her husband’s killer of being more focused on her own AA [Alcoholics Anonymous] 12 steps than actually wanting forgiveness.
Why does Bruno resent his mother so much?
Towards the end of Caught, Bruno is tired of never being a priority in his mother’s life. Ema Garay is always busy with a case, and it does seem that she only has time for her son when she needs to ask him something relating to her current case.
When Ema doesn’t show up to visit the cemetery for the anniversary of the death of her husband, Bruno’s father, it seems Bruno has had enough. He partied and pretty much crashed their own house. However, in the end, he also cleans it up.
Bruno reconnects with his mom once the case has been solved.
Why did Ema Garay quit her job?
At the end of Caught, we see Ema Garay quit her job as the leader of the “Caught” investigative reporting team. Instead, she suggests that her colleague, Vicky (Bárbara Massó), take over as the lead.
She does this in order to spend more time with her son and really be there for him. She can still do important work without being completely caught up in the current case. Just not if she’s leading the investigation on the story.

Michelle reached out with the following question:
Won’t Armando’s mom be going to jail for helping her son?
While it isn’t explicitly mentioned during the ending of Caught, Juliana is also at the police station and appears to be held back when they take away her son, Armando.
Because Armando is underage, he is probably going to some kind of juvenile facility. Juliana, on the other hand, is an adult and helped hide Martina’s body.
Had they just contacted the police and told the truth, it would likely have been ruled an accident. Investigated, of course, but it was an accident. Also, Armando was a kind and loving young man who really couldn’t live with the secret, so it was obviously a bad decision on her part.
An understandable choice, to help keep her son safe, but not the best one.

Stéphanie contacted us via our Facebook page to ask a question about episode 3:
What was Bruno’s secret, please?? The fact that he and his friends throw a wild party? Or that he sometimes watched Martina on the internet?
The secret Bruno was trying to reveal to his mom, Ema Garay, was actually something quite innocent in the grand scope of things; He stole the boat that was later found with Martina’s scarf in it.
His intention was always to bring the boat back. He didn’t want to steal it but simply “borrow” it (without permission) so they could get to their party destination via the water and avoid triggering alarms at the front gate.
However, once Martina’s scarf is found in the boat, it all becomes a much bigger event. Now, the boat seems part of something sinister. Also, Ema isn’t making time for her son even though he repeatedly tries to tell her what he did.
