Eat the Rich? Yes, that’s the Delicious movie ending

In the Delicious ending, we learn that the young people – usually working as servers or in other service jobs with a wealthy clientele – attach themselves to families. The goal of doing so is to immerse themselves in these families and divide them to then conquer them.

Or rather, to eat them. Oh yes, in Delicious, the rich are not robbed and the victims of any other financial fraud or blackmail by the villains. They are actually being eaten.

In other words, the Netflix movie Delicious is about cannibalism.

This has raised quite a few questions, so let’s get into these questions in order to do the ending explained for Delicious.

Who are the young people eating the rich?

We don’t know too much about this group of young adults. Most of them have scars all over their bodies, and they’re most likely self-inflicted or made by someone else in the group.

I mean, we see Teodora’s “car injury” being inflicted by one of her fellow cannibals. Later, she tears into her wound to keep it fresh and bleeding, so the German family keeps feeling sorry for her.

They come from different countries and seem to be practically nomadic in their way of life. Always moving to a new place after a while. Of course, when you eat the people you’re working for, you need to move away from the scene of the crime.

Teodora is from Andalucia in Spain, while Lucien is clearly from France or another French-speaking country. Learning more about how they found one another and when they began eating the flesh of the wealthy would be a great origin movie.

However, not knowing everything is why it’s so sinister. Not unlike the Netflix movie The Open House about a serial killer targeting victims via open house events.

Why do they Eat the Rich in Delicious?

If anything, the story in Delicious tells us that they eat these rich people because they can. Not unlike the plot of Speak No Evil.

They may not be able to ever be as wealthy or as arrogant as those they serve, but they can have the ultimate power over them; Take their lives and eat their flesh to make them disappear off the face of the Earth.

Also, they tend to only kill and eat those who have treated them as inferiors.

This is something Esther, the mom in the family, does when she meets Teodora in the bathroom at the restaurant. She never once acknowledged that Teodora was there and trying to do her job, and she just used her as some sort of appliance.

The fact that Esther never even looked at Teodora is also why she doesn’t recognize her when they later “hit” her on the road.

How can they get away with murder and cannibalism?

Two things seem to be working for this group. First of all, they are many, keep moving around, and they work together. Any potential witnesses won’t be able to pinpoint who might be involved. Ted Bundy also managed to continue killing because he moved around.

Secondly, there are no dead bodies left behind as evidence of the murders. They eat the evidence and move on to new locations, which enables them to keep going.

If anything, missing people cases can come of it, but with no dead bodies and entire families disappearing, the cannibals are long gone before anyone discovers the victims are even gone.

What happened to Amber at the beach?

This was when we first saw the young cannibals at work. The American girl, Amber, was swimming in the ocean with Esther and everyone else. Suddenly, the young cannibalistic friends started moving away from Esther and Amber, and then we see Amber get pulled down.

A little later, meat is being grilled and eaten by everyone. There’s a comment that the meat is “as fresh as it comes,” and everyone is sort of smug about this as they tear into the flesh.

Even before this moment, we’ve seen Teodora eat raw meat as she’s preparing dinner for the German family back at the house. This was probably the first clue that meat would come to play a huge part in the story.

Delicious on Netflix – Will the daughter Alba become a cannibal as well?

Will the daughter, Alba, become a cannibal as well?

In the final moments of the Delicious ending, we see Alba leaving on the back of one of the motorcycles with the group of cannibals. Throughout the movie, we’ve seen Alba be largely ignored – or not listened to – by her family.

Teodora, on the other hand, felt a connection with Alba immediately. Maybe the young girl reminded her of herself as a younger girl. So, if Teodora asked Alba to come with them, it’s not impossible that she would agree to.

Also, we’ve seen images on IMDb and from press material that aren’t in the movie. In these images, we see Teodora teaching Alba how to carve up meat.

It’s impossible to know whether Alba will become a cannibal, but surely it’s something they’ve all evolved into. With that in mind, it makes sense that she will follow the lead of everyone else in the group.

Why did the mom, Esther, just let herself be devoured?

Once Esther noticed the blood in the rather shabby apartment where she was partying with her new young lover, Lucien, she realized she was in trouble.

When she then saw other young people eating the rich American she had just been talking with, I think she realized it was all over.

The fact that she didn’t resist and just let herself be eaten by all these poor and hungry people was the result of many things. It had already been established that she was exhausted in her life and even disappointed by what she had achieved and wanted to run away.

In essence, this was her escape; Suicide by cannibals, if you will.

Did Philipp eat his dad in the Delicious ending?

Yes, he did!

That’s the simple and short answer. Admittedly, having his dad’s wedding ring be in his heated plate of food was a bit forced. I mean, had it been a stew of some kind, it would’ve made more sense.

In a stew, bones (such as the hand of his dad) could’ve been cooked, which would explain the wedding ring. When eating a slice of roast, the ring shouldn’t turn up.

Unless, of course, it was in the gravy, which could very well have been made using bones.

Then again, it could also simply have been that the young cannibals decided to leave the wedding band with the leftovers as a little clue of sorts.

Delicious questions from our readers

Below are questions from our readers and the answers, as we understand the Netflix movie.

Alex contacted us with the following:

Why is Philipp left alive?

There could be more than one answer to this question. One explanation could be that he always treated Teodora right and was kind. Well, except for that final creepy moment when he tried to take pictures of her in her underwear.

Also, he wasn’t home when they attacked the adults in the house. Plus, it could be the knowledge that Philipp will be hungry when he returns. With the delicious leftovers in the kitchen, they must have known he would end up eating this, which means he’ll eat his dad.

Of course, Philipp won’t know this – the wedding ring in the food would only tell him that his dad probably prepared the food – but the cannibals will know that the unsuspecting boy will eat the flesh of his own father.

BJ reached out with this simple but important question:

Did the cannibals eat Cora because she was a witness?

When the cannibals return to the house of the German family, they know that Esther won’t be there. They’ve already killed (and eaten at least part of) her at the party back in the crummy apartment.

They’re clearly coming for the husband, John, but when Cora (TRUNK‘s Sina Martens) is there, they need to deal with her as well. Of course, they don’t have to kill and eat her.

However, Cora does fit their “code” (to use a classic Dexter term) as a rich person who tends to treat staff in a rather arrogant manner. So, the question for the cannibals is probably “Why not?!”

Leaving behind witnesses obviously isn’t a concern for them – if it was, then Philipp wouldn’t have been left alive – so it must have been because they wanted to kill Cora.

I write reviews and recaps on Heaven of Horror. And yes, it does happen that I find myself screaming, when watching a good horror movie. I love psychological horror, survival horror and kick-ass women. Also, I have a huge soft spot for a good horror-comedy. Oh yeah, and I absolutely HATE when animals are harmed in movies, so I will immediately think less of any movie, where animals are harmed for entertainment (even if the animals are just really good actors). Fortunately, horror doesn't use this nearly as much as comedy. And people assume horror lovers are the messed up ones. Go figure!
