Resident Evil, for the uninitiated, was originally a video game before it was turned into a movie by a Hollywood film studio.

The original game that inspired movie maker Paul W.S. Anderson was quite possibly one of the creepiest games of the 90s, and it was because of that, the game still has a huge following today.

The problem, however, with Resident Evil is that most of its hardcore fans moaned that some of the more recent Resident Evil game titles, particularly 5 and 6, deviated so far from the horror-survival genre. The franchise became a completely different animal, particularly with Resident Evil 5 and 6, which played more like God of War instead of a suspense game that keeps players at the edge of their seat.

With Resident Evil 7, however, it would seem that the popular franchise went back to its roots and it is absolutely terrifying.

It’s a creepy game to play with a controller. But what about if it’s played with a VR headset? Just a few months ago, Heaven of Horror published a post of what REAL horror looks like. With Resident Evil 7, the horror is perhaps augmented ten times because the game is still being developed for VR.

Resident Evil 7 is set after the events of Resident Evil 6. It features a new character named Ethan, who doesn’t have greatest of survival skills contrary to the former main characters of the Resident Evil games. Ethan is on a quest to find his missing wife, which leads him to the dysfunctional Baker family mansion.

Although connections to the previous games will be mentioned, Resident Evil 7 will feature an entirely new cast which is sure to excite fans even the hardcore ones who bemoan change. Additionally, horror fans across the board will be eagerly anticipating further developments regarding Resident Evil 7 and its offshoots and tech advances.

Horror games will always be a part of the popular culture, and this is true for all digital platforms. Android Play Store has several horror games such as Dead Trigger 2 and Murder Room, both of which are extremely popular among gamers. Even text-based games for the PC such as Night is Falling on Text Adventures is a huge hit among people. For casual games, there are also several titles that carry horror-based themes like the Day of the Dead game which is hosted on the super popular gaming website Gala Casino, one of the leading pay-to-play gaming providers in the UK that provides VIP privileges to its loyal patrons. Whether it’s games, movies, or books, horror seems to be a trending subject at the minute, and the reemergence of Resident Evil, on whatever format, will only heighten the genre’s popularity among the masses.

Resident Evil is slated to be released January 2017.

Some people prefer to play actively with horror instead of watching it.
